Title: W108 Tool Roll
Post by: neelyrc on February 26, 2023, 03:14:03
My recently acquired 280SEL 4.5 had a fairly well worn canvas tool roll in the trunk which included a meager batch of tools.  I scratched around the shop and added a few MB bits in order to have a few items on hand on the road.

The parts book does not show any spanners but surely a few would have been included. The lug wrench I have thrown in is not sharp ended and is surely incorrect.

Does anyone have a definitive list of tools supplied with the 108. If so, I would be pleased to see the list so that I can try to duplicate.

Here is a picture of the tool kit from my 1972 280 SE 4.5 which was ordered and purchased new by my mother that year. The only exception from its "as delivered" condition is the addition of the flat "tire bar" in the center of the top row. Why my father added it to the tool kit is a complete mystery and I retain it simply for the sake of sentiment.  All of the other items are exactly as supplied by M-B and they have never been used.

Am I missing the spark plug wrench? And it seems the extension on the very left does not fit any ratchet/tool

Thanks for the reply and the picture.  Looks like I am not to far away from a complete set.

I can’t read the sizes of the open end spanners.  Can you indicate the sizes of those shown?

Ralph

I've got a ton of wrenches.  tell me which one you need.  I have the later 107 water pump pliers (smaller than the 113) as well.  i think you have the correct spark plug removal tool, screwdriver, fuse puller, fuses, and hapewe pliers.  not sure about the bag, but i have a bunch of the red and blue gauze ones.  I don't know much about the 108's.

Thanks, Mike.
I have a supply of various size wrenches. ejboyd5 has indicated his kit is original.  I was asking what the sizes were in his kit so I could pull duplicates for my bag. My bag includes the Mercedes logo and except for color it appears to be identical to the bag of ejboyd5. Good chance it is authentic, if not so nice as my 113 roll. No water pump pliers are shown in ejboyd5’s original 108 tool kit. I will put in a pair of the smaller 107 pliers which I have.

Still a lot to learn yet about the 108.  When you look at details such as tools, you can really appreciate the wealth of detailed information available on our site about the 113.  I don’t think this detail exits anywhere for the 108. I’ll just have to wing it on some things.

Thanks again for your help.

Channel lock pliers. Heyco 300. German: "Wasserpumpenzange"

Ralph:

There is a 1969 300SEL 2.8 on BaT right now that seems to have a complete tool kit:

Thanks Mike, I can read the mm sizes on the wrenches in this picture. Just what I expected.  This one has different fuse pliers similar to my 113 pliers and also includes the small water pump pliers.  I think I have now pretty well fixed what I will leave in my kit.

Thanks to all for the help.

Note that the fuse pulling pliers appear as both female and male.
