I'm restoring a 230SL from 1965.
It was partially dismantled when I bought it, or in other words a broken-down project.
I had it blasted, welded where necessary, repainted and am now in the process of rebuilding it.
In the right door there were two holes for the mirror.
Now I have fitted a mirror but it seems to be too far to the front.
Inside, there does seem to be a reinforcement plate for the mirror mounting.
Is this mirror original or did someone drill the holes themselves in the wrong place?

Lots written about this subject, have a search for "mirror position" one post here, but i would search others for a definitive answer

I wonder if sometimes the holes were drilled in the door, without knowing whether the door was going on a right hand or left hand drive car, your holes would be correct for a RHD car, but incorrect for a LHD. I assume the doors were the same for all cars?

I think you're right. I checked the position of the holes and they are at the same position as the LH door.
