Dear all,
My dog likes to sit on the parcel shelf area behind the seats. Wonder if anyone knows where I can buy a cover / mat / soft sponge base that fits that area so my dog is comfy and my car carpet kept clean?

Pagodatastic - Attachment will be the trickiest part, because you probably don't want to screw/staple anything into the parcel shelf wood or upholstery.
If you want to go cheap and DIY, maybe buy some thick foam and cut to fit each half. Then, sacrifice an old flannel sheet to cut some covers that tuck under each shelf and somehow attach to keep the top taught over the padding. Or, don't attach and accept the best fit you can accomplish. You could also drape it over the sides from the soft top storage area and down below shelf level to protect the side walls from dog hair. (Cut a hole for the release lever!)
If you want to have something made, you still need to attach it somehow. Right? I think that's the hardest part.
Cocomat would look very nice, but not be soft and cozy.
How big is your dog? Back when my car was on the road, I used to take my pair of 20 pound White Westies (RIP) for rides and they liked to be in the back too. Same with my 450SL and current pair of Westies. I only did this with hard top or soft top in place. And, I would take out the wooden center tray because they would walk on/in it to get to the passenger seat and back. On the 450SL, the arm rest makes a nice divider. Terriers don't sit and chill much on car rides! I don't recall the dog hair sticking to the old square weave - it vacuumed up easier than in the plush carpet in the 450SL.

If it was me, i'd make or get made a padded cushion, in wipeable material, faux leather or PVC, fixed to the parcel shelf with velcro. Any furniture upholsterer could make one, quite cheaply, or there are some advertised here

I have Cocomats in driver and passenger side floors. Excellent product and fits like a glove but my dog (greyhound) needs more
Padding. I am thinking of cutting a large thick Yoga Mat to size then can easily clean and roll up and pop in trunk. Guess was just wondering if a bespoke product was out there on the market.
My speakers are under the parcel shelf so want the dog bed to be a removable thing.

If it would stay in place on it's own, then something like Bob recommends would be nice. Would adhering velcro to the carpet be damaging at time of removal?

That could work well and keep the “look” by choosing correct colour and material. No need to Velcro in as would only use when dog was there and her weight would be fine to keep it in place.

We'll need a couple pictures once it's in place with the princess perched on it! ;D I've never used Etsy, but maybe you can find a seller who will make a cushion custom fit to the curve of the space.

My greyhound wouldn't get in any car that didn't have at least 6 inches of padding for her old bones, not much natural padding on a greyhound, anything less and she'll be reporting me to the RSPCA

At our previous house (where this pic was taken), we had friends in the neighborhood who were active in Greyhound Rescue. Great dogs!!

i'm sure it doesn't matter if we go off piste on this thread, it started off dog related. i would think most pet greyhounds are retired racers, ours was. She used to run around in our field with our rescued Lurcher, one day they ran into me when i had my back turned and took me clean off my feet, took the wind out of my sails and nearly broke my leg. Only ever recorded human/greyhound accident

You might want to look at one of the anti fatigue mats intended for standing infront of the kitchen sink / counter. Cheap, great designs, wipe-able, soft cushion and anti slip bottom. I think we got ours at Lowes for $9.00

Good call. That or thick yoga mat seem to be the way forward.
I do hope they close all the Greyhound tracks down. The dogs are treated so badly it’s disgusting.
Anyway, thanks all for the input.
