Title: Purchased 1967 Pagoda
Post by: Dehcho on November 20, 2022, 03:36:32
Hello all,

I just joined the group. I purchased my first Pagoda last Tuesday. I am really enjoying it.  Runs and drives well.  Have been tinkering with a few things, but all in all seems great!,

I purchased the car from the wife of the gentleman that had owned it since the early 80’s.

Thanks for adding me in…

what is your chassis number?  Looks like an early '67, the best of all Pagodas!

Wow: Looks like the care at one time was close to NE Ohio. The Southgate Shopping Center isn't really a shopping center anymore. Where did the owner live? I once knew a 230SL of that color in our area.

From what I know the owner lived in Hudson Ohio. He was a tour manager for Pink Floyd and other bands.

Better shot of it.  It’s located under the hood in the engine compartment

As per the Tech Manual, not a 250sl but a 230SL from Aug 1966 production.

Jack Eby?? (or similar) Lived (or lives) in Hudson, Ohio. Wasn't in the music business, though. He was a salesman for a corporation I used to work for and later had his own toy shop.

Also says it right on the tag

Hello, interested to see what colour this is, there should be a plate just behind the washer bottle, if you post a picture we can decipher what paint colour it is

Here is the data plate.. Is this what shows color, options etc?
Title: Re: Purchased 1967 Pagoda

looks like the colour is Called 716 Graubeige (Grey Beige)

Post by: BobH on November 22, 2022, 21:03:23
That's correct, i suspect it's quite a rare colour, the other numbers are option codes, as far as i can make out, Auto+Power Steering, Heavy Duty Heat Exchanger (not sure how this differs from standard?) & left side door mirror (door mirrors were not standard, they were all options

The 6 means it came with a hardtop and the 7 was a US delivery

The interior looks like turquois, but hard to tell from the pictures, the interior colour and whether it was supplied with leather or MB Tex, carpet colour and other options can only be confirmed by the data card for the car, this listed all options when it was ordered, if you don't have it with the car and it's important to you, a copy can be ordered, details where from are on here if you search

It's really interesting to find out more about these cars, well worth the time searching on here using the search function above and the tech manual

Thanks Bob,

I will definitely order the Data card.  This type of information is important to me. I will search the forum and figure out how to get one.

It’s a unique colour combo.

If it is turquoise, it's very rare, there's a white turquoise car in Australia

Beautiful combination, a real period colourway, but them i'm biased as i have white/blue

From what I know the owner lived in Hudson Ohio. He was a tour manager for Pink Floyd and other bands.

His name might have been Jules Belkin. He was the promoter for most of the big concerts in the  70s and 80s. Not sure he was local though.

SL113 Board Member "Alex D" has a 181 Light Beige with turquoise interior.  He used to live in NE Ohio, but is now in North Carolina.

Dehcho,

I'm glad you're going to participate in our group!  It's well worth the time (and money, as a Full Member).

This is a large forum, with lots of sections for specific things.  I'll ask the moderator to move this introduction thread to the appropriate area, pictured below.

We have quite a few Canadian members, so I hope you can meet a few and share some Pagoda stories in person.

Don't know if this is the same car. was seen in Akron in late 2019. Still interested if the records show jack Eby (sp?) as a PO

Not the same car.  The owner of this car was David B Russell. he lived in the Ohio area for several years. He has just been inducted into the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 2022..

Dehcho,

Sorry, as this set of messages is its own thread now, merging it into a topic (not moving it to another board) will not make sense as the messages would be interspersed with all other messages in that topic. And therefore difficult to follow.

DEHCHO ( Sidney , BC 🇨🇦):
Welcome to the group and congrats on buying a bit of rolling history!  I’m from the Far East side of BC, in the East Kootenays ( INVERMERE). Mine is the only 230, 250, 280 SL in the Columbia Valley as far as I know.  1970 280 SL / auto that started in San Diego but spent most of its life in Vancouver.  Interesting to find a large number of Canadians as PAGODA owners ( finding more all the time).
You will find this site to be an invaluable resource.

Hello I have an SL 230 from 1967 ,it has the engine of the 250 SL (M129III 129.982).
The previous owner has told me that it has not been swapped and that has been assembled with that engine directly from the factory .
Do you think it is possible?
Do you know also how can I obtain a data card of the vehicle ?
Thanks in advance

if you need help to decipher the codes post it on here, someone will help you, or you can join the forum as a full member to enable you to search the technical manual to decipher the card yourself

Welcome Dehcho. Congrats on your 230SL!!  FYI, the tour manager for Pink Floyd is now, and was, from London. Maybe the gentleman you bought the car from was a local music promoter. Anyway, good luck with your Pagoda. They are great cars.

To interpret each area of your data card, refer to this area of the Tech Manual as there is a lot of info there.

If you would like the old photocopy data card recreated into a set of data cards that exactly match the originals. Just let me know. I created the ones for Dehcho that
he showed in his post. Best regards DM
