Title: Crazy Market
Post by: MikeSimon on October 17, 2022, 15:32:56
I know, many - including myself - have no idea what's going on with BaT. Bids resulting in outrageous transaction prices. Here is another example.
I had the first version 2.3L as a company car in 1986. Wonder what the reason for this price is??

It seems to tick off all of the right boxes for a collector car. Why ask why?

Looks pretty dramatic. I would never buy one but there's plenty of people apparently who will.

I saw one at the Toronto auction once but I think it was the regular 2.5 and not this model. With only 500 produced, high performance, recognized brand name, and mostly used for club racing, what's not to like?
Too bad it was made in sedan only. A coupe would have been a much nicer look.

I don't say it isn't a nice car, but.....$145,000.-??? It will take you 10 years, at least, to bring this into a "collector" car status which may justify the money. And then...in 10 years, the market for ICE cars will be significantly smaller.

But not on this car; it was close to 70,000 DM in 1990.  Anything this exclusive is not affected by normal trends or markets. Some things that are rare are not always valuable - this one is.

Yes, the "Evo" cars were not you normal 201 body. While not in the same league as the "Hammer" cars, these are highly sought models.
