Title: 1970 280SL Pillar Chrome Caps
Post by: FB280SL on October 06, 2022, 03:19:04
Greetings fellow Pagoda lovers. I have recently become the new owner of a beautiful 1970 280SL Coupe and am struggling to find certain like for like parts. The first being the pillar chrome caps for the hardtop. The current ones are worn and don't provide a good seal. Your assistance in helping me find suitable replacements is very much appreciated.

Others may have them too.
Congrats on the “new” car.

Thanks Dirk. It's a great place to start the hunt.

Welcome to the group. Nice to see another Australian, there are quite a few of us and several from WA if you look up in the Membership list.

A bit of advice from a fellow Australian on purchasing new parts to ship to Oz, when looking the cost of shipping out of USA which is extremely high at the moment, get prices from all the regular supplier places like Millers, Buds Benz, Authentic Classics which can be done on line and finally the MB Classic Centre in Irvine CA.  There is a list of suppliers in the Tech Manual area. Then cross check the price from European suppliers, again on line, such as SLS and others before committing as shipping out of Europe can sometimes be half the US shipping costs so the part cost is only part of the total price.

The alternative is to put a Wanted to Buy advert on the Forum and see how you go first.

Bit of a correction - the Classic Center has relocated from Irvine CA to the MBUSA Vehicle Preparation Center in Long Beach CA.
