I saw an add last night for a Pagoda in Bellingham Craigslist - looks nice - I think its in the $40k range - Might be a deal

Would go for a lot more if it is a 5 speed as advertised!
-
On the 1st glance ... looks like a 230 in the 40 Grand region.
A 1964 was never delivered with a 5-speed. If it had, it would have been retrofitted.
Needs a thorough visual inspection....

I just purchased this car on Friday and very much looking forward to restoring it. I jumped on it as I thought it was a good deal also. It definitely needs some work but it will be a good project. Engine runs but needs a tune up. Paint and interior will need to be updated as well.

Suggest you become a full member Brandini. There is so much good information available here. I have been working steadily on my 280SL restoration and couldn't have done it without support from this site. Good luck on the resto. Lee

Thanks James for the welcome! I've tried uploading pics several times but keep getting an error message. When I figure it out, I'll upload a few.

Welcome Brandon,
There is a limit on both size and number of pictures you can load per post. Try reducing the size of the photos.
Would also suggest you join up as a full member. The $30 annual fee is a small price for in information on the Forum and Tech Manual that will potentially save you many hundreds of dollars and also stop you doing some early changes that may in the long run not be the best way to do things.
We all love photos……

how much you buy it for may I ask?
It's not the one from mercedessource.com, is it?
-
Is it really a five speed?

I paid $24K...found it on craigslist.

I think thats a great price.

If it is in running condition, that could be the cheapest Pagoda sold in the world in 2022!
Anyone else know of a running W113 less than USD$24K?
Would love to see more photos and I how the project progresses. It does not look like you can lose money on this beauty, well done!

Ha!...Yes, I feel I got a great deal. She was an older lady and was originally asking $25K. I felt bad even asking but got her to accept $24K. The car was a gift from her late husband who recently passed away. The car does run, however, since adding a new battery I noticed some smoke coming from the engine bay. I'm thinking its some kind of electrical issue with the starter or alternator but unsure. I'm having a mechanic look at it in the next couple of weeks. I'll try and get some pics posted. - Brandon
Also, I just removed the wood trim from the dash to refinish it. Seems the original color was a silverish blue? Haven't had a chance to look up what the original color code is.
-
Brandon,
There is a lot of information on the Forum and Technical Manual on wood refurbishment. Be careful, the veneer is quite thin.
I suggest you join as a Full Member for $30pa and save your self lots of heartache and dollars as well that will more than pay for the membership.

Wow…$24k!!! What a smoking deal, no matter what is wrong with that car!
PS: I’ll give you $25k ($30k if you bargain!). Looking for a project!

Post some photos, the original listing has been removed.

Here's a few photos taken at the sellers home before I had it towed.

Given just this information, you have made a wonderful purchase and cannot lose. Invest wisely, google extensively, read this forums many pearls of wisdom and follow the lead of experts on this site.
Will be great to see this car back on the road in whatever condition you can afford. Time and money can fix almost anything.

I wanted to provide an update on the 64' 230SL I purchased back in September - over the last couple of months I have been busy repairing and restoring the car. It was not running when I got it so I had a local mechanic here in Seattle replace the alternator; voltage regulator; thermostat; shifter bushings; ignition switch; in-line fuel pump; front brake rotors & pads; brake flex hoses (front & rear) and various other issues. Next step is front suspension / steering and I've ordered all new parts and plan on installing them in the next couple of weeks. Eventually I would like to repaint the car (red is not the original color) and update the interior. I've really enjoyed the process so far and the kids love it. We plan on keeping it in the family for years to come.

Nice! What was the original color?

I believe it was blue. How can you tell the color code?
-
Brandon,
Now as a Full Member you have access to all this information within the Technical Manual.
In this instance you would look for your Paint code Plate https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/BodyandPaintNumberPlate (https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/BodyandPaintNumberPlate)
From that you can read the paint codes and then access the Paint Colour codes area and read what your original paint colour was. https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/PaintCodes (https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/PaintCodes) You will see a car in that colour as a Thumbnail.
For your interest, if you follow on, you can also work out the upholstery colours and more. Just nead to dig around in the Tech Manual for just about everything you ever wanted to know on your Pagoda ;D

Just saw this posting – curious if those Euro headlights are French yellow?

There is a body/color plate at location (3): https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/VIN
That should give you the original color.

I thought they were yellowish as well...didn't know there was a "French Yellow".
-
The lights don't look French Yellow to me, I think it's how the photo came out, of traditional filament bulbs. French yellow is VERY yellow!

It's been a while since I posted an update but after several (frustrating) months I'm happy to report the car is up and running just in time for the summer weather here in Seattle. This has been fun project and I've learned a lot during the process. Several trips were made to my local mechanic for repairs I was not able to do on my own. I spent countless hours cleaning and polishing. I've replaced most of the suspension and engine parts, updated white wall tires, weather seals, new soft top, chrome, radio, and too many other items to mention. I'm most proud of how the trunk turned out. It wasn't in the best shape when I purchased the car and I'm pleased with the results. The original white leather interior cleaned up well after some intensive cleaning, however, my next step will be getting all new upholstery.
When I purchased the car I had very few records. I ordered the data card through Mercedes and found out that the car was originally signal red with white gray leather interior and a black soft top. At some point, someone painted it blue, then back to red again. The engine was also replaced with a 250 SE/C sedan.

Super job. And I guess you also got the hardtop looking good. Personally I’d keep that interior because original leather is a nice feature and yours looks way better than most.
-
car looks fabulous! YOu definitely got the Pagoda deal of the last 10 years.
Thought I did well for $34k on mine a few years ago.
Congrats and keep up the good work! Enjoy her for awhile before tearing it apart for new paint.

Thank you...yes, the hard top looks great with all new rubber seals.

Thank you...that was my thoughts exactly. It's not the best paint job but I can live with it for a while. Eventually I'll have it repainted but that will be a big undertaking.

Awesome job! Now, finish it off with a white shift knob.
