Taleb, first you need to join as a full member. Two issues per year of Pagoda World are included in membership. We send these all over the world, so it would show up via the local mail system.

I'm as happy as I can be for "Babes" to be featured in PW31. (Jonny and our contractor did a great job.) At the same time, the comment about the issue being only about white cars is funny but true. I can't tell you how many times, when proudly handing the issue to interested family and friends, I had to explain that, "No, that's not my car on the cover." Ha!

You will all be pleased to learn that the Sl113.org envelope with Pagoda World finally arrived here today. Sent on 12th of september, arrived on 17th of november.

So if you haven't yet received your issue, do not give up hope yet!

It has a new label attached, with a return address in the Netherlands. A bit of sleuthing learns that this is: KAAB (https://kaabnl.nl/site/index#section-3) They are a Polish/Dutch mail redistributor, probably used by US postal service, leading to these massive delays in delivery.

Before sending the next batch, we better check with the shipper / postal service.

Post by: Jonny B on November 18, 2022, 17:05:34
Yes, please a bit more patience for those that have not yet received their copy of PW 31. We do realize that the delay is not acceptable and are working with the printer to understand where we need to apply the proper solution(s).

For those that have not received a magazine, if you do get one in the next week or so, please post here.

If the disappearing issues do not show up, we will follow up as we did for PW 30.
Title: Re: Pagoda World 31
Post by: Jonny B on December 15, 2022, 18:26:35
To all group full members. We have closed the window on PW 31 no-show replies.

We understand this is simply not an acceptable set-up and we are moving toward what we hope is a more reliable shipping method with PW 32.

We are doing a reprint of PW 31 as we did for PW 30.

This all reminds me of a bit of trivia. The first issue of Pagoda World was printed in two places: for the United States I believe it was Rodd who had those printed and mailed, and I had the 'rest of the world' done in and from Amsterdam. So, there are two versions of the first edition: one in A4 format and one in Letter. I believe we went to having everything printed in the US as from the 2nd issue on (not entirely sure now since it's around 20 years ago ...)

Wow, that's a designer's nightmare! Two layouts and two sets of everything. I guess that makes the A4 original version quite a collector's item!

US Page size: 8.5" x 11"  -or-  215.9mm x 279.4  "wider but shorter"
ISO A4: 210mm x 297mm  -or- 8.268" x 11.693". "narrower but taller"

Now here's some more trivia...there's generally a healthy amount of white space, or big "bleeds" with the images, and text far from the edges, on Mercedes Benz print ads so that one layout and design with different trims can be used in both US, A4 and other size publications with no changes.

The domestic items were put in the mail last Friday, 30 December. The international items are going out this coming Friday, 6 January.

These are being sent directly, not via a mail forwarding system.

Hi,
I'm not waiting any longer for the PW31.
I spoke to a CIA insider last night who told me that all PW31s shipped overseas have been confiscated because the pictures allegedly show secret facilities.
Personally, I think this is nonsense. Rather, I thought it was a rumor that the PW31 even existed, because no one had seen it before. You could also row across the Atlantic faster than going to the post office.

;D ;D I am sure the magazines were sent via Media Mail which will take an awful long time. I am regularly sending Birthday Cards (yes, I am hopelessly behind the times) to Germany to family and friends via First Class mail and they take two weeks to get there.

...I am sure the magazines were sent via Media Mail which will take an awful long time...

The magazines for USA were reportedly sent via bulk rate mail, not media mail. Media mail only makes sense for items with a bit of weight to them, such as books. The Pagoda World books were sent via media mail. Media mail would have been faster though more costly for the magazines. It's generally no more than 7-10 days from any two points in the USA, and that's a maximum. I've had plenty of the Pagoda Books sent out from here and received in points distant in 2-3 days, as if it were first class or priority mail.

We believe the international ones were sent out via some third party mail service; we do know that ones in the past were sent via a company called Kaab https://kaabnl.nl. We cannot tell you if Kaab handled all or only part of the international shipments.

The astute among you will note the word "reportedly" and "we believe"; in reality when we had the shipping issues, we should have been able to get to the bottom of this. However, the printer who handled this was, shall we say, less than cooperative in working with us to find a solution. We had the same problem a year ago with PW #30; six months ago with #31. In both cases we went through a costly reprint and a remailing of duplicate issues. We were not about to do that a third time. The last straw, as it were, was when they told us that they send out tens of thousands of magazines monthly and we are their ONLY client complaining about magazines not arriving. They then went as far as suggesting that you, our members, were lying to us in order to get "free" additional copies. That was it, they closed the door on future business with us.

It's mentioned in the another thread, but we've changed printers, and along with that, mail class. The domestic, USA issues will go out presorted standard mail instead of bulk rate, and international ones will go out first class. They are also dropped in a completely different manner in a different state, and no 3rd party remailing services will be used.

It's taken a bit of work on the part of editor JonnyB and myself to sort this out over the past six months, but we believe by changing everything in the process, the results must be different. We know the quality will be the same.

We've uncovered what happened. I screwed up. I created the mailing list for the resend of the PW31 issues using the member numbers of the PW30 issue.

41 of the members were on both lists, so they will/should have received their copy of PW31. The other members will receive a second copy accidentally.

For the 191 members I missed out a new copy of PW will be printed and mailed. Check this post (https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=36009.msg263269#msg263269) to see how to check your membership number.

Then check if your membership number is in this list. If it is, you will receive a copy of PW31. Eventually.

Peter

Carlos, and Alpinaltd,

your names/numbers were in the first list of members that I created erroneously. So your copy should already be underway to you. Like 41 other members who reported the missing issue, and are in the first list.

The members in the list with numbers will have to wait even longer, because that issue will need to be reprinted and re-mailed.

Just report it if you get your issue, as you can see they are now beginning to arrive...

After not receiving #30 issue I thought my response (confirmation) didn't go through because of my email client so I changed it to Gmail. My membership number is not on your list. Should I be worried?  :-\

Any UK member not got a 31? I have a spare I can post (if that then doesn’t mess with mailing lists)

Hi Peter,

I'm in the same boat.

I never received PW31. I haven't received #30, either. In both cases, I replied to the email sent to confirm. After not receiving #30 issue I thought my response (confirmation) didn't go through because of my email client so I changed it to Gmail. My membership number is not on your list. Should I be worried?  :-\

Petri

Your membership number is 3807. You are not on our PW30 list and not on the PW31 list. I suggest you hook-up with James Lester and ask him to send you his spare copy by PM.

If you have a normal e-mail client setup with your e-mail account, clicking the button in the newsletter should have opened a ready to send e-mail in your mail client, that would only require you to press the send button.

If you are using gmail in your browser, it should have also opened a new mail ready to send. You do actually have to press the send button yourself.

Have a look in your "Sent" items if a mail was actually sent. If you have, please mail me that e-mail as an Attachment (to admin@sl113.org) so that I can have a look. Don't forward it, but send it as an attachment.

Peter

Petri,

I checked with Jon Bernardi (that's where the mails went) and he does not have a record of your mail for PW30 and PW31, also not in the spam box.
The mail you forwarded me has no subject and no content... in fact it is malformed. It was sent to the correct address but would not have registered correctly... as it does not have the content it should have had, including your member number and a correct subject.

It appears something in your mail system is not set-up correctly.

I've received a second copy of issue 31 - happy to mail it out, though I suspect I might be mailing it overseas!

Thank you for including the Pagoda SL Patch.  I had it sewed on my cap.  I tried to upload a photo but can't seem to make that work.

Thanks a lot, got PW 31 today, about a week after I got PW 32.
I can read that it was post stamped 03/13/2023, so it came quick, only 8 days!
Big thanks that you’ve arranged resend of PW 31 when it failed by some reason on the attempt last September

For those that have not followed the saga of PW #31.

It was printed by our previous printer and mailed in September, 2022.
By December, we realized that the same problems existed with PW #31 has had existed with PW #30: large numbers of magazines not getting to their destination.
At our sole expense, we authorized a reprint of PW #31 after asking members to let us know if they didn't receive it. As per usual, not all responded in a timely fashion. The second printing went out at the end of December, 2022.
However--our mistake--we uncovered an error in the way the address list was prepared. So not all who did respond timely made it on the list.
We changed printers and made a THIRD printing of PW #31 and that went out  at the beginning of March.

The new printer also did PW #32. No complaints on delivery, however we are starting to get some back, mostly non-USA members who don't provide a proper mailing address standardized for their country. I don't know why this is an issue, but a measurable number of people simply don't know their own address and or don't know it must be standardized to their own postal service rules. Not ours.

Aside from that, at a fractionally different price point we are now sending out all magazines in a different class and many are arriving overseas within a week of posting.

We consider our mailing issues solved. I think we won't be talking about this in September with PW #33.

What is the deal with issue 31 ? I still have not received a copy. I have however received Issue 32. I am guessing that I'm not getting one...

We are checking into this now to see if we have a remaining copy to send you. When we first ran into this issue last fall, did you follow the instructions in the time allotted so you could get on the list? If not, you never made it on the first list. We then did a second mailing, followed by third. We’re looking to see if you were on any of these lists.

I received an email on the 4th Dec 2022 with a link for a reply email if I had not received a copy of issue 31. Clicked on the link and send the reply email as instructed the same day. I would be nice to get 31 at some point. Thank you for checking.
best regards

Alpinaltd is in the second list, i.e. the PW31 set which also had incorrect entries in it. It was sent at the end of December 2022. He's therefore not in the third mailing.

As such we have to assume your issue got lost in the mail. Can you double check that your address is included correctly in the system, in accordance with Spanish postal rules?

There are a couple of members on this thread that received 2nd copies, i'm sure they wouldn't mind posting their spare copies to Europe, it would only cost a few £, perhaps message them and ask

IF there are any non-USA members who did receive duplicate copies of PW#31, please send me a message, a PM preferable. Just click my name on the left and you'll get my official club email. We may ask you to post these out and reimburse you as needed.

For the time being, we'll take care of the two members in Spain today. I just created the international shipping and customs labels, and JonnyB will get these out today. I should note that when processing these today, it tells me that First Class Mail to Spain is up to 4x longer to arrive than to say, Germany or France or other European countries...and based on all the ExPat information, I think Correos may be the hold up? Both Alpina and debel56 received tracking information so they can find out where their magazines are once they leave the USA.

As our Admin Peter has alluded to, and I've been saying all along, it is quite important that all members check their address according to local rules. For USA members, our printer does this automatically by placing the address list through a US Postal Service certification program which standardizes and corrects addresses. However it cannot correct errors such as a transposed house number, or something like that. We cannot do ANY checking on non-USA addresses. For all members, no postal service can place a mailbox at your home either. As editor JonnyB and I have been working through these issues, we have had returned Pagoda World magazines from members with incomplete addresses, incorrect addresses, along with "no mail receptacle". Sometimes when trying to contact the member, we don't get a reply. We have been assiduous in trying to get these situations corrected on a one by one basis as they occur. But it would be so much better if everyone, particularly those outside the USA, would use their local postal system's online service to verify their exact mailing address and format. I only use this as an example, but if you live in a small village in England and everyone knows that your home is "Flower Cottage, Whimsey Lane" Royal Mail instead may have it as 13 Whimsey Lane. It may have been a home built hundreds of years ago, and for which mail has been delivered without issue for decades--but the rules have changed. As all mail--first class letters to large packages--that cross international borders must clear customs, some jurisdictions require that the addressee's name conform to their legal name on government issued identification in case the item is held up in Customs. I don't make this stuff up. For all I know, the two magazines posted twice to Spain are still in their customs office somewhere awaiting clearance. No way to know.

Postal services the world over since Covid have tightened up so many things. What was normal 3 years ago is no longer normal.

While maybe just 10-15 magazines are returned to us, it is taking an enormous amount of time (not to mention club funds, at 3x the original cost) to sort out these issues.

Yes your copy was also sent in the December 2022 mailing. The same question -- as you are also in Spain -- is your address entered correctly according to Spanish postal rules?

Unfortunately, Peter, the December 2022 mailing (the duplicate) of PW31 went the same way as the September 2022 mailing of PW31. Our FORMER printer used a third partly mailing service instead of the USPS to get the magazines from the USA to their respective host countries. Thankfully YOU Peter were the one who noticed this third party label.

Our new strategy with the new printer is all mail goes first class. No third parties. Both Spanish members here did get #32 sent out this way. New copies of #31 are being sent today.

Yes, my address is correct. I have received issue 32 without problem! and before issues 30 and 29.

I have received too Pagoda World Book Volume 1 and later Volume 2.

My address is always been the same.

Many thanks
Carlos

Our two members in Spain had new copies dispatched to them on 27-April from California. While it took some days to get properly sorted for international transit to Spain while in the hands of the USPS, these replacement copies left the USA (Los Angeles) on a plane, on 3-May. So by today they are in the hands of Correos, the local Spanish mail carrier. Hopefully they will get these delivered to our members in a reasonable amount of time.

@debel56 and @Alpinaltd, it would be nice if you let us know when they arrive.

I Received issue 33 a few weeks ago. I liked the fact that the new clear wrapper is re-sealable. I read it and was able to put it back in the original clear jacket for future preservation. I am working on my "Man cave basement" and will obviously use my prior issues as wall art.

thank you for the latest issue.
