Title: Device (constant Speed Solenoid) on intake. Why is it there ?

I have always wondered why on my car which is  a 4 speed manual there is this device on my intake that is not wired and does nothing. I think it is for automatics. why is it there on my 1970? maybe this is a replaced intake? or maybe this is just how they installed it for both manual and automatic in 1970? thoughts on this?

I have seen other pagodas which came from the factory with these constant speed solenoids never wired and never meant to be used.

Was it not also used on A/C equipped cars? I suppose your car does not have A/C though, or not anymore.
Either way it's somewhat valuable these days, Authentic Classics selling it for almost $1,300.

I agree with Cees. My 1970 (automatic, no A/C) has the solenoid and it is not wired in.

I would venture a guess that, in an age when it was NOT a $1300 part, this might have been included in what might be termed a "USA" or "North American" spec package as it became clear that dealers were adding A/C to 280SLs with increasing frequency.

Thats great information. I confirm mine has no AC and is a stick shift. I did power it up and it does work!
