Title: Chrome soft top escutcheon

Hi
Recently had some spray work on my early 230sl and the chrome escutcheon that goes over the receiving plate for the locking pin of the soft top is now missing

Whilst the company have now sent me a replacement, I’m wondering ir there should be a gasket of some sort to that fits between the boot and the new escutcheon, or is it effectively metal on metal?

Had a look at mine and I did not see one.  Checked the parts book and it does not show one.  I would probably put some sort of weatherstrip adhesive (3M) under the lip so it keeps the water from getting under the edge.  The parts book does call for two washers, one of which is rubber, and a nut.
