Thank you for letting me join your group. Just bought this 280sl and would need more information on the car and how it is supposed to look originally.
Can you help me for more info on the car?
Like year? Are the fender lights supposed to be present? Correct side mirrors? All I know it’s a ‘68 and it’s euro based from the lights , door sidings and bumpers. I think the fog lights aren’t even original. 180g is brilliant silver? Would it be possible to know the original interior color? Mbtex or leather?
Any help would be highly appreciated

Hello JunB. The first thing you should do is become a full member which will give you access to much useful information that you will undoubtedly be referring to from time to time.
But to answer your specific question, become familiar with the Technical Manual. If you click on "Technical Manual" at the upper left, then click on Main. TrailindexPage you will see the subject of Data Cards. You can also decode your paint code and optional equipment tag using information in the same section. And 180g is described as Silver Gray.
The item you need for full identification is the Data Card. If you search the forum you will find many references. It is apparently available through MB for a charge and you will have to show proof of ownership. Without the data card, knowing for sure if your Euro bumpers and headlights and USA style marker lights are correct for your car will be difficult.
Best of luck with your new car! Lee

I see a 4 after the color code. That is the first one I have seen on a paint plate. The hard top was packed in a separate crate.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate the help

If want more help - you need to post more photos showing interior, dash, gearshift area and show photo of VIN plate ( from door jam area or firewall area in engine.

It’s obvious that ac and shifter is not original

I dont see the data plate on the firewall, the fuel fill is also missing on the rear

Contact MB Classic center and get the data card. it will show the options and what the original engine number, trans should be for the car and interior color. They used to send it for free but probably charge for it now.

The final 2 on the third line of your data plate indicates that this car was originally delivered in Germany. That would mean that the side marker lights were added later.
The missing fuel filler is a novel twist. How do you fill it up?

If it is a German/Euro car (add. evidence: hard door pockets) the ID plate should be on the firewall. Maybe it is hidden under the firewall padding, if it was replaced?
I have never seen the VIN number stamped on the firewall on the left like this, behind the brake booster. Someone definitely tried to make things look a certain way

Unfortunately, mb dealer Philippines cant Help me with this, we just have a dealer and no mb classic center

Thanks for the info, Will have a look tomorrow

Thanks for checking, those fender lights are really puzzling me, now I know To take it off.
Theres a fuel nozzle inside the trunk which is so unsafe! Since The battery was moved To the back To give Space for aircon condenser on the previous battery location in the engine bay

Is this original?
No, its not. It looks like someone modified the panel and fitted a different tank (108 possibly).
