Title: 56 Years Old and Still a Good Looking Wedding Getaway Car
Post by: RonnieStiggs on May 26, 2022, 07:09:16
My '66 230SL was my dad's since before I was born. He passed away over a decade ago, and his car sat in my mom's garage since then, until about 2 months ago when I got it over to my garage and started getting it running again. With a ton of help from everyone here I was able to get her running well enough to make it to our wedding, and almost all the way home!

Almost all the way home? I sense a bigger story here.

Lost power (Acceleration) about 1 mile from home, and stalled as soon as we stopped at a light and wouldn't fire back up. After sitting for about 10-15 minutes it started just fine and we were able to make it back home. I suspect something involving the WRD is the culprit, but am still researching before I start asking dumb questions again in the forum.

Your Dad would be proud of you and looking down with pride and joy knowing your are all grown up and his car was a part of your big day.

Indeed, congratulations!

Would you consider putting together a story for Pagoda World magazine???

Very likely you have a fuel supply problem from the pump in the tank. If the car sat for a decade and you did not clean the tank, it is likely that loose debris and rust sank to the bottom and clogged pump intake/return line and the pump shuts off. I think this is not an uncommon problem with the Pagoda.

I -and maybe some others too - would be interested in finding the reason and the remedy for the problem. This particular issue is not uncommon for a car that sat for a period of time.
