Title: Missing both data tags under bonnet
Post by: spence_pcs@hotmail.com on May 18, 2022, 22:30:07
Hi, I recently bought a 1968 Rhd 230sl, it was a failed restoration about 10 years ago.
The problem I have is both data tags/plates have been lost when the engine bay and the rest of the body had a colour change. I have rubbed back the paint on the chassis number located on the inner wing and matches the V5. 2 questions. 1. How do I go about obtaining a data card with the full build specification? 2. Who can duplicate the 2 data tags/plates located within the engine bay, I believe one has pressed digits/numbers?
Thank you in advance for your help. Cheers Spence

Firstly, production of the 230sl ceased in January 1967 so not quite sure if you have the 250sl and wrong designation or the 230sl and wrong year..

You can get the data card from the MB Classic Center either Germany or in Irvine USA, but they will charge you $150USD for the privlage.

On the data plates there is a supplier that does them, a member here but don't know his name off the top of my head and maybe someone else can chime in here otherwise it will come up in our suppliers list.  https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Suppliers/Start (https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Suppliers/Start)

Another suggestion, join up  as a Full Member for $30 pa as this will then give you full access to the Technical Manual that will be vital to give you all the information you will need as a Pagoda owner and the ability to understand all the codes and information on each model of the Pagoda as well as a wealth of information to maintain your vehicle.

Spence, you’ll need the cash, plus provide them proof of ownership (v5 should do it) and (if you can) a pic of the vin number on the car (ie that you’re not trying to clone off the v5). They may still offer the data cards out of Germany but the US is the same but they’re really used to us lot!

The VIN should also be stamped on the right hand side front longitudinal frame in the engine bay. It’s under the large diameter duct pipe from the air filter

VIN 113 042 is 230, 113 043 is 250, 113 044 is 280
