For those that haven't seen it already, a rather lovely original 1967 250SL with ZF 5-speed about to go for decent money...

Could not help calling it as I see it, in a comment. I guess I am just a negative nellie sometimes!
-
It surely is, early 250 SL with a 5 speed. Doesn't get better and rarer than that!

Also on the paint. The inside of the hood is body color as it should be but is highly polished. Didn't the factory just spray it the body color and did nothing more? No polishing and runs and any other imperfections were OK. That is what I remember and it is the way the inside of my 230SL hood was since new.

The original color appears to be yellow rather than gray judging by the transmission plate color and the color of the bottom side of the engine compartment. Not sure why this car is already at $145k with 6 days to go. I don’t have access to the tech manual on my phone to look up the paint code.
Also can tell that the front left fender was painted separate from the door as it’s a shade off.

According to the data card that the seller posted, the color combo was 180/180 Silver Grey Metallic

really cool, but seems like a lot of money for an extra gear.
You could get a super nice 280SL 4-speed for say...$100k, and put another $10k in that 6-speed conversion.
Sure, not as rare, but more fun and enjoyable (bigger motor, extra gear).

Still like my automatic better..... 8)

Odd that the owner would take the car for a test drive but never put it in 5th gear when it's the main feature of the car he wants to sell. ::)

Dan,
Sounds like my first Pagoda, a 280sl that i drove for six months without even knowing it had a fifth gear 😂😂😂😂😂😂

wow, looks just like my 67 250SL inside and out! Only I don't have a 5th gear or soft top...
