Title: Kinder seat associated carpet
Post by: col320ce on May 11, 2022, 19:36:38
I'm trying to get the panel opposite the kinder seat covered in carpet however world upholstery haven't seen one before. I'm sure it's original but can anyone confirm this?  Can anyone show the correct way to cover it (ie where the seems an binding are)?
Thanks very much everyone

Col,

Are you talking about the wooden piece next to the seat?  If so, that appears to be just one of the two standard wooden "parcel shelves".  However, in my experience, a car has either the two wooden shelves (part of a standard carpet set), or the jump seat and a carpeted footwell (see the photo of my car when I purchased it).  It may be that World are saying that they don't know of one in a car with a jump seat.  (I think you order a different carpet set for a car with a jump seat.)

Col,

Here is the Cabrio.de carpet for kinda seat installed. And the second photo of the carpet that was in the car when purchased before replacement by me.

My car was just like yours. I had the jump seat and the carpeted parcel shelf with no carpet underneath. I had to place a second
Order for just the parcel Shelf
Carpet.
I could Not get the multiple footwell  pieces that came with the German auto tops set to fit properly. I am hoping someone can show me how they are suppose to fit at the next pagodafest.

So the carpeted shelf presumably is identical to the non kinder seat version?

I couldn't work out how to put the carpet in the well either....

Hi Col,

Thought I’d chime in too, my car is like Garry’s with just the carpeted pieces in the footwell when the kinder seat is fitted.

I’ve never seen the piece you’ve got there on the left as it appears to be angled down towards the passenger door.

My carpet set is soon to be on a plane coming back to me and it’s meant to have the pieces for the footwell if using the seat and also the two pieces for the parcel shelves.

Happy to send you some pics when it does arrive.

Doug.

Col,

Just to be clear, when there is a Kinda seat fitted there is no timber parcel shelf fitted from the production line. There is the carpeted foot well as per my photos.

When I ordered my carpet set I stipulated that a kinda seat was fitted so there was no extra carpet pieces supplied nor needed.

It's much neater than the foot well so I want to keep it. I'll post some pictures.
I found another car with the same panel on the internet...

My SL is the European spec. It has the kinder seat as well as the wooden shelve on drivers side. I also found the passenger side wooden shelve some years ago on the internet. GAHH sells the carpets for the shelves as well as for the foot well. I waned to get the passenger side wooden shelve so that if I decided to show car without the kinder seat I could do so. However the kinder seat is a conversation piece at car shows. People see it and wonder where you legs go, then I open up the driver side shelve.

BTW yes to your question, the driver’s side shelve is the same as without kinder seat.

Hi Robert
Thanks for clarifying!
Do you believe that your driver's side shelf originally came with your car?

Hate to differ with Garry, my European came with kinder seat as well as the wooden drivers side shelve. Reason I know this is when I did restoration, the underside of kinder seat as well vs as underside of shelve, painted black with both having wax pencil markings of my last 4 of vin number. At the factory these pieces are marked so when car comes down the line the correct purchaser ordered parts are assembled on the car. I found many parts like this, even the underside of all the leather pieces stamped with last 4 vin number, as well as the seat frames marked with wax pencil of the seat builder/assembler initials. My thoughts is that the German doctor who ordered in Pagoda wanted the shelve in order to make the back look finished and can be used as a storage area to sit things on. At car shows people ask me how can someone sit back there, where do they put their feet.

Bob, and Col,

I stand corrected, if they have the 4 vin numbers on the back i totally agree they would have come with car. Interestingly, what does the data card then say, third seat and ?

They say you could order anything you liked or wanted. This must be one of those examples.

Bob, Col and Garry,
just a reminder, these crayon margins are not the last 4 digits of the VIN  but the last digits of the Production Number.

Re: Production No., production related. This is a rolling number series for internal use and it has no hidden meaning. Last part of Production No is in crayon on inside of panels, under seats, on the back of the glove compartment etc. https://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/DataCards

Alfred,
I was mistaken by stating vin #, I meant to say production number. You are 100% correct. Anyway to go back to original thread, carpet can be made by GAHH.

Thanks for all the information!
I have sent a paper template off to world upholstery. This is the last thing to do on the car so I'll post some pictures when it's done.
Thanks again
