Title: Seat Pad markings
Post by: kampala on May 07, 2022, 19:40:56
I recently took apart the seats on the '71 280sl for a complete refurbishment.   Based on what I have read here I expected to find the paper tag and some crayon type marking on the frame -- all this was found.

There was also a very large stenciled "F" on all 4 of the pads.   I assume others have seen this but could not find any info in my searchings.   See photos.

As you can see these pads were well used of the last 50 years and finally they are out.

Any thoughts if these are factory stampings or what they might be and if you have seen these before?

Aslam,
Interesting. Just checked mine and they have a marking too. Doesn’t look like your “F” though.

?? :o

Fehrer perhaps? F for Fehrer?

https://www.fehrer.com/

They're the later manufacturers of the seat paddings.

Not for the early cars though .... :-\
That was "Emil Hauenschild" in Hamburg ... :o
No longer in business.... :-[

Dirk

Thanks much for corroborating the stencils.  At least it seems like these were originally there.

Achim,
You might be right.  That makes sense as mine is a late car and Dirk has an early car so the H makes sense for him.

I also saw a pad on eBay from an early car and it had an H as well.
Appreciated
