Well, it was in a fairly safe part of Downtown SB -- though leaving the window down is probably only wise for very short-term parking. Now believe it or not -- when my daughter pointed it out (before I recognized it which is pretty rare) -- we both peered inside and the keys were in the ignition!! The car was still parked there when we re-emerged after a Pint of Guinness -- but the keys were gone! My guess is the owner was not far away -- probably enjoying a beverage within eye-shot of his baby.

Last week I drove mine to the office.
I left the windows open because of Nashville summer heat.
Later, a coworker came in and said “do you know your keys are in the ignition?”
Oops! I clearly was treating the parking lot like my locked garage!

Funny you should mention that as leaving keys in the ignition is not that uncommon with myself as well!
Leaving the car with the windows down and roof off can be a little anxiety inducing but it would appear most people are respectful in this part of the world. One eye on the weather and the other on the car 😂
My newly driving daughter pointed out that our Pagoda has an inbuilt anti-theft device, the 4 speed stick shift!
No-one she knows, knows how to drive a manual car…..

During this year's IMSA race at Mid-Ohio, a nicely done 914-6GT replica caught my eye in the parking area. When I walked over to have a closer look, I saw the windows were down and the key was in the ignition. No sight of the owner anywhere. A couple of hours later, when walking by again, I saw a couple getting in the car and talked to the owner. He said he recognized that he left the key an hour or so after he parked the car....

I've left my Honda 300 scooter keys on the saddle once for a whole day in dowtown Geneva, they were still there when I returned. And my house keys in the front door of my apartment on the Amsterdam 'Keizersgracht' canal for a whole day. A passer-by who spotted it was kind enough to give it to the neighbor cafe, for when I got back. So I got lucky twice. Mind you, in the villages near where I grew up, people left their back doors unlocked always. And one of the barns I store a car and motorcycle in here in France even has no lock.

In the town near our cabin in the mountains of southwest Virginia folks regularly leave the keys in the ignition. A few years back when a friend had gone into town to pick up some things at the general store, he had a medical emergency and was transported to the nearest hospital more than an hour and four mountains away. Someone noticed his windows were down and rolled them up when it started to rain. A couple of days later someone else delivered the car over the mountain to his home so that his wife could get to the hospital to pick him up when he was discharged.

Back when my son was in scouts, the troop ran a paper drive. One Saturday one of leaders said that a neighbor was willing to loan us his truck which he described. He said go over to where the town offices are, the keys will be in truck. We used the truck for a few hours and as I returned it, a city police officer came out. I asked him if it was his truck, he said yes and I thanked him for making it available. He said there must have been some confusion and that he hadn't agreed to let us use it but he didn't mind. In fact he laughed and said he was driving his cruiser earlier and saw me coming the other way. As I was leaving, I noticed another truck, same description, parked in the parking lot.

Someone I knew years ago would leave keys in the ignition and a $20 bill on the dashboard…with the windows down.
His Rottweiler in the car seemed to discourage the would-be thieves. 😉
