Title: Water Coming in Near Pillar B
Post by: Pawel66 on March 13, 2022, 19:14:05
After very heavy rain or, like yesterday, after heavy rinsing while washing I have this piece of carpet wet. How is water getting there?

Soft top was up. But I have all the drain hoses and drain holes working there, at the bottom of pillar B.

Somehow through the door or door seal?

I would suspect the door seal as a good place to look. I had a similar issue years ago, and found that the door seal was not living up to its name!

Thank you, will look again...
Probably a water test...

Not that it is important and contributing to the issue, but I was always of the opinion, that 2-door cars do not have a B-pillar. The A-pillar being behind the windshield and the C-pillar at the rear, a 2-door has only A and C pillars. B-pillar is between doors.

 ;) ;)
Respect that.

If you could take it to the next level and suggest how should I call that... thing that is there, where my water ingress is and everybody calls  b-pillar?

;D ;D Yes, it is a subject of much discussion...

Pillars are implied, whether they exist or not; where a design's greenhouse features a break between windows or doors without vertical support at that position, the non-existent pillar is "skipped" when naming the other pillars. Thus a two-door hardtop or a three box designed coupé could have its rearmost pillar called the C-pillar even in the absence of a B-pillar.

ok.

But if I wrote I had water near pillar C, nobody (except you perhaps) would know what the hell I am talking about or what do I smoke in the best case...

Pawel, is it only wet on the carpet and there is no evidence of water higher up in the interior ?

jz

Zak, nothing. Anywhere else.

What about under the parcel shelf?

Parcel shelf - sorry, which shelf do you mean, I am not sure?
I was specifically checking the interior for water leaks several times, I found a leak some time ago where water came alongside the windshield washer hose - eliminated that. Now it is dry everywhere except that carpet spot.

I think, sometimes the area behind the seats (with the wood board covers) is called "parcel shelf" ??

Thank you, I will check beneath the wood boxes - maybe there is something there...

Sorry Pawel, I should have been more  specific.
It is actually the compartment next to the space under the wooden box that could be the culprit. The harness cable runs along this side and I remember reading somewhere that a member found a spot for water penetration there. Incidentally, that compartment should also be sealed off with a plastic sheet.
Hope you find the source. 🤞

Thank you Alfred! I have been checking (dismantling everything) in that area when I was working on hollow spaces waxing and drains. It was all ok. Foil is there. But I will look again - thank you for the tip!

Have you found the leak?

Thank you for your kind attention, Alfred. I will look into that during the next car washing. Not too much driving so far this year... We have a beautiful winter this spring (attached).

Very scenic although I suspect you would like to see it a little warmer by now.

Beautiful “Spring” photo Pawel!  I do hope you get some relief soon.  We have been a little more fortunate in Alabama.  Out for a spin this afternoon.
