All,
I am reassembling my window lifter mechanism using rebuild kits.
Each of these kits has additional parts, a small shaft a spring washer and a plastic donut. I don’t know (yet) where these are used?
Thank you.

Most of the kit is not used. I think I used the spring washer and plastic guide. Pretty sure the retaining clip won't work either. At least I could never figure out how it would. This kit probably covers about 30 years worth of models. More convenient for the vendor but we pay the extra cost for parts we don't need.
-
Thanks Wallace, that would explain it. And yes, the retaining clips are crap.
-
Having left over parts makes me nervous and maybe I should have gone into aviation mechanical repair. No left over parts or unaccounted for tools allowed.

Ofcourse they do work :)

I have recently wrote about this as well. The shafts (or pins) that you see inthe package are not the pins you think they are and they will not work with the clips Sead shows.
-
Sead, you are a magician. Lol. I refinished the good (old) clips and had enough for one door. I just picked up more clips from MB and will see if these are better. The SLS ones imo are not good and need modification to work.
-
Mystery solved. The retaining clips from MB, (4 to the right) even though similar design, are different and work well. I think the difference can be seen in the pic.

The windows have been on my to-do list for years, so I'm looking for the right parts, preferably in a kit but sounds like its not that simple. If the SLS kit isn't quite optimal, I'm wondering about the one I found on AuthClassic's site? Also one on Bud's Benz site with clips looking like those on the left of the prev post picture.
Does anyone have experience with any of those window lift repair kits, or could recommend yet another? I don't like extra parts either but you sure wouldn't know it from the full mystery tray on my workbench. thanks, Mark

Haha! Got a chuckle out of that one, and now I know what to call my own 'mystery trays' I have floating around.

Mark,
Out of the kit, you will need the plastic sliders, the plastic thrust washers and the retaining clips. The clips coming from SLS are useless. As mentioned, the clips from MB are perfect. When at the classic center, they also mentioned selling the kit but the also sold me the clips individually $1.95.
I would buy from them in this case.
