Title: Hood hinge spacer/shim/clip
Post by: jeblack123 on February 08, 2022, 03:26:07
Good evening. I am trying to find these spacers or shims that were on my hood hinge. My body guy says that although there 2 on on side and 1 on the other, the hood would still shift slightly from one side to the other when raising or lowering the hood. I am trying to see if this part is a Mercedes part or a something that was used by the PO to help stop the sideways movement. I suppose that a series of washers could be altered to serve the same purpose but wanted the group to weigh in before I made a mistake.  I have included a picture of the clip by itself, one on the hinge and one with the hinge on the car.

Thanks for any feed back.

I could be wrong but those just look like circle clips that someone added. I have the same problem when I open my hood. I could not see any spacers or washers shown on
The parts manual so I am going to try to move my hood brackets out again and will probably add something like circle clips if that doesn’t work.

I am looking forward to others answers here as well.

Excessive space at this connection is not adjusted by shimming. The bolt holes on the hood part of the hinge are slotted so that any excessive play can be eliminated by simply moving the hinge half so that there is no play before tightening the bolts on the hood.

Thanks, Joe. Makes perfect sense. I will pass this along.
