Title: 280 SL VIN number

Hello, my 280 SL doesn´t have the vin number plate and the cross member at the front is full of rust, I have the plate id near the booster how can I have or find the VIN number?

The vin number is not on cross member, it is on lateral member under the air filter-throttle thick pipe.

If you cannot find it on the car, thoroughly check all the paperwork and documents. Sometimes, owners note it in some of the stuff.

Hello I found the number 7051 in many places, and the ID tag near the booster have the number  426  491   503   515
                  180 G    040   G    6
                  113044   12     7     
                  M60185         97051
this numbers can help me to find the serial number for the vin because with those numbers I have
                  11304412_ _ _ _ _ _
but I am missing the last numbers.

Please find enclosed the VIN location on enclosed picture. It is stamped only in this place. Otherwise you can find it on the plate on the firewall and in the documents.

11304412 means it is a W113 car, 280SL, LHD, automatic.

All the other numbers have different meanings, but you will not pull together VIN form them.

If you become a full Member, you will have access to our Tech Manual where the meaning of these numbers is explained.

If yo find 7501 on several car elements, this means these parts come from this car.

If you are looking at buying a car where you cannot determine the VIN number - do not buy it.
