Title: References for selling 68 280 SL in Central Ohio Area
Post by: wsgibson614 on October 18, 2021, 14:42:17
Need to sell a 68 sl in the Columbus Ohio area and wondered if any members had suggestions of reliable local outlets for appraisal, listing, consigning, or potentially auctioning the vehicle.  It underwent a fairly extensive local restoration in 1989/90 repairing structural rust in rockers. floor. truck etc. and smoothing/straightening/paint all panels.  Summer driver until 2016- parked since then.  Any suggestions welcome- not looking to start cold calling places so if anyone has an opinion to get us headed in the right direction your input would be greatly appreciated.

Moderators- please move or delete post if appropriate.

Invaluable forum, wish we had known of it years back when actively driving and maintaining it correctly.

Thanks in advance-

Wes

Take TONS of pictures, a cold-start and walkaround video.  Driving video.

Pictures showing VIN on the hood.  Data tag plate.  Notches in front fender,   Spot welds on front fenders.

Restoration photos if you have them.

Then...put it on BAT.  Takes about 5 weeks however

Or you can do what many others have done and put it on our For Sale area and thus actually offer it to other members first.

Can save a lot of hassle.

According to the original poster's description, this car has been off the road for 5 years so it is a non-running car. I wouldn't recommend any first time seller listing a project Pagoda on BaT. You only get one chance, and there is a learning curve. BaT is great, but not great for every car/scenario.
