Title: 1969 280SL ( Factory 5 Speed) For Sale
Post by: Benz280 on October 13, 2021, 23:23:57
Came across this Holy Grail of 113's on Bring A Trailer.
Out of my budget but thought fellow 113's enthusiast find it a good read.
And for those that have been in search of a factory 5 Speed, this may be a good opportunity.

"...offered by the seller on behalf of its owner..."

Oooo...so mysterious.

I think there's only one Holy Grail (as in 'The' Holy Grail), but strangely, we've seen a few of them lately. I'd like to make a claim for the title.

Does having a Factory 5-speed make it a holy grail? In which case there are a few hundred of those.

There was also that other holy grail recently with black valve cover. But we know there were a few of those.

I think my car is the holy grail. It has a Factory block heater. I've never seen another one with that.

very lovely and current owner has spent serious $$$ on it.

Be cheaper to find a factory four-speed and convert it w/a Getrag 265 and that kit in DE.

However, rare is rare and has a premium.

So plain looking.   Would look better w/black hubcaps and of course, black hardtop.

Hello Meyer,
sorry, your search for the grail has ended, here is another one. My 280SL had one that was installed in Colorado, but it was made in Canada, perhaps that makes it "holy".  ;)
When I bought the car I had no clue what the pigtail in front (next to the A/C heat exchanger) was good for until Joe A. explained that it was connected to a heating coil on the block.

Nice Alfred.

I may still try to hold on to my contended title if I can show mine was factory-installed. I'll try to get pictures next time I have a chance. It has a European plug on it because it was originally a German car.

It's interesting that these cars were once used in real winter conditions. Block heaters and ski racks...
