Title: Correct injection pump air filter for 1965 230SL
Post by: franjo_66 on October 11, 2021, 06:19:25
Hi all

Had an issue with cold start (ie engine struggling to idle and rpms not @ 1000rpm)
Traced it down to a faulty air filter on the injection pump. As soon as I pulled it off, it was sucking air and cold start no longer an issue.

What I did notice was that the filter on my pump has the larger 18mm thread and 22mm hex head. This I believe is the same version as fitted to pumps on the 250SL & 280SL.

My pump version is the PESK6KL70/120R11 unit.

Does this mean that my pump has been retrofitted with the later version WRD? Or did some of the 230SLs use the later version of the air filter?  I was thinking of replacing the thermostat in case I have the later version. Is it simply a matter of measuring the thermostat housing to verify which version I have. I think mine was around 74mm from base to top

Regards
Franjo

The filters are the same from what I remember. Available at the dealers. Cannot check PN now, but they will find it easily.

Thanks Pawel & Esmo

The current filter on my pump is a Bosch one with pn 0 457 103 002. So I will order the later version

Without taking the WRD apart, is there any other way to confirm whether my pump utilises the ealier or later version of the injection thermostat?
