Title: w108 280 SE sedan 1972 m130 engine coil recommendation
Post by: jim 56 on October 04, 2021, 20:57:25
Hello all. My coil crapped out and for the time being I put in another one that the po had in a box of parts he gave me. Both of them are aftermarket coils. I would like to put in a Bosch coil and from reading so many posts I am confused as to which one to order .I have a crane 700 system installed with the ballast resistor which I believe is 1.8 ohms. I think I should get the red Bosch but just want to be sure
Thanks Jim

You might consider getting the red coil and 1.8 ohm resistor. About the best fire you can get on these engines. I think that will work as well on the later ignitions. Be sure your plugs are non-resistor and the plug leads are solid copper with no more than 1000K ohm ends.

Yes, still good for points. The 123 distributor may be another option for you although it is more costly.

Pay attention to the ballast resistance that the manufacturer recommends from the after market electronic ignition. Two little resistance will burn they unit out.

thanks guys.I would love to do a 123 but too expensive at this time.I really would like to get rid of all the emission controls.I think you can do that with a 123 correct.
