Is the door pocket rivited to the door card under the leather or are these holes for screwing trim on?
I don't have the car with me te see how it goes and the trim was done incorrectly last time it was done.

Col, my door cards are original to the car and it looks like the bottom of the map pocket is held on with 4 clips. I tried to zoom in on my picture but they look like clips, not rivets.

They look like metal tabs that are attached to the pocket that slide through a slot and are bent over

This is very interesting. I just removed the door panels from my '66 230SL, and removed the hard pockets from them when I re-dyed my upholstery. My pockets are held on by screws all around, and the boards have holes for the screws (like the 280SL photo referenced by Alfred). You can see the holes for the screws along the bottom of the pocket in the first photo (where I was re-gluing some of the MB-Tex).
Another 230SL production change?

Lots of interesting stuff!
I assume the early pockets had the screws and the tabs were a later modification to hind the screws and that the screws are not very good at attaching it in the first place. My cards are original and there are no slots present, just he screw holes.

Hello David,
this is a confusing topic with hard to find answers. My 1966 230SL had pockets with tabs. Attached are photos what they looked like.
Like you I am pretty sure that they were original.
The problem is that during the W113 production run these pockets were not offered as a replacement part only the complete door lining was: p/n 1137200570 (left) and 1137200670 (right).
However, later a repair shell was sold by Mercedes p/n 1137270569. See photo. I bought this used when I switched from soft to hard pockets on my 280SL.
I have been unable to find any further info on this replacement part number. Perhaps Pawel can? ;)
Recently, I decided to replace the split leather seam on the armrest in my 1964 230SL and noticed that this one has the holes! Don't have a photo of the actual pocket but the photos of the panels show the holes. On the inside the screws were covered by a tape. The scribbles and different numbers are another interesting story.

My plan...
The pocket has a 15mm strip of foam on the bottom edge, presumably to hid the screws.
Screws will attach from behind so you shouldn't see the screws.
I'm confident that the outside of the hard pocket should have foam under all of it so I'll add that too.
I think I have enough pictures to work out how the leather goes on.

My 230SL 03/64 original door panels.
There is no rail as on later cars. There are metal sheet screws DIN7982 2,9x9,5 to secure the door pocket on the bottom. See pics
