Title: M127.982 tach seal
Post by: MarkCan on July 14, 2021, 14:23:55
Quick question here, on the tach output body on the engine there is a plastic looking seal under the washer. Can it be replaced with the suitable o-ring? See attached pics;
I purchased the full set of gaskets and washers but this one isn’t there.

It's so easy to replace that you can just try your luck!
Less easy is the oil seal (007997734602) inside that often gets overlooked.

Are you referring to the position #162 bellow?
That is another one that was not in my package. I'll add that to my list. The main thing is, I still be able to continue with the engine build.
Thank you

That's the one - there's a good discussion at: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=32589.msg237099#msg237099, and a picture of the seal here: https://www.authenticclassics.com/Seal-Ring-for-Mercedes-Speedometer-Drive-p/auth-008887.htm

I replaced both the Tach seal O-Ring (#133) and the Oil Seal (#162) several years ago. Pictures below are my old one and two new ones.

Kudos to Dave at my local MB dealer (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada). He came through for me again. Got the o-ring and the seal. I picked it up today and will install tomorrow.
Than I’ll flip the motor, give one last look over everything and put the oil pan back on the block. I think it’s time to start a new thread.🤔
