Title: Dashcam in a Pagoda
Post by: Pawel66 on July 05, 2021, 07:51:56
I would appreciate sharing ideas where to install dashcam in our cars, so that they perform their function and do not spoil the look.

Just decided to install dashcams in all of my cars, but struggling to just place it in the middle of the windshield because of how it looks...

Any ideas on placement?

Are you willing to take your new dash cam apart?
If yes then you can remove the video sensor from it and place it anywhere you like. It’s the size of the thumb nail therefore it should not spoil the classic look. Especially when placed behind the rear view mirror.
Good idea, you never know 👍

I have no idea, to be honest, how difficult is it to remove the video sensor (which part is that? :)).

I have one dash cam and several holders in the cars, but I would be willing to sacrifice one dash cam for the Pagoda.

Dear Pawel:

Use the ones that stick to the mirror.  Those are not so notorious.

In amazon there are plenty of them.

Dear Pawel

This one I saw on amazon which does not have a screen is very discrete, you connect to it via wifi established between your iPhone to the camera.  So you see on your phone what is recorded on it.

Is very very small.  I do not about the quality, but one unit with this idea in mind (no screen and wifi or Bluetooth connection to a mobile device) will be the mos discrete solution you can have in order to keep the car looks.

There are three GARMIN models

46W for day driving, not so good night vision, cost around usd 120
56W for day and night driving, sells for 150
And top line 66W listed for something like 200 usd.

I thing that the middle one is enough for our needs.

Best regards

Could you wire one into the front grille star or is that too much of a pain to use?

Edit… didn’t think that through very well… if you have a front end knock the first thing to get destroyed would be the evidence…

Thank you for all your answers!

JamesL - this has crossed my mind - it is not a bad idea! I was thinking, though, about the lens getting dirty all the time...

I will explore the Garmin range - there are tow types there, I just need to check a couple of things.

They are not much bigger than the one I have. And the advantage of mine is that the bracket stays with the wire in the bracket and the unit itself is easy to remove. It just has the wire socket in the wrong place...
