Title: Trunk carpet options

Hi there,

I recently bought some cocomats to match my interior (pics attached of my interior and mat choice). I am now considering replacing the fragile rubber trunk mat with a carpet/cocomat alternative - to avoid any trapped moisture issues, to stop things sliding around in the trunk and to prevent any further degradation/damage to the original rubber mat.

A few questions from the more knowledgable members:

1) Is a cocomat the preferred route, vs a loop/squareweave carpet, sisal mats etc?
2) have those of you with cocomats in the trunk kept the same pattern as the interior? thinking the red pattern might be a bit too garish for the trunk and that black is a safer bet. Would love to see any examples out there.
3) Does the cocomat not have a rubber backing, and therefore suffer the same issue as having the original rubber mat in there re. trapping of moisture?

3. I can tell you the trunk mat does have a rubber backing, but they will make it for you without the rubber backing so it does not trap moisture. That is what I have in my trunk (when I don't want the trunk to look factory).

Thanks, did you end up going with a matching pattern, or all-black?

Not a huge number of photos of owners with brighter colours in their trunks - I'll agree that some of the darker, blue/black/grey patterned mats look great!

I removed the rubber mats because of moisture concerns and had GAT fabricate loop carpets that match my interior.  It’s a nicer look in my opinion and easy to remove and vacuum.  I still have the rubber mats for authenticity purposes but for everyday use the carpet set is better. 

I had thought of using coco mats but with their heavy rubber bottom I could not see what the advantage would be.

There is not much moisture concern when most of our cars are driven very little in the wet and are garaged nearly all the time when not being driven.  I vote for sticking to the original!
