Title: Coming home in June
Post by: mdsalemi on May 28, 2021, 12:11:03
Since October 2018, my car has been off the road, spending two winters in a museum and finally in October 2019 being moved up to my friendly service facility in Commerce Michigan and having some work done on it. The original hardtop which was never restored was finally restored; The 230 SL door which was on the driver side was changed to a proper 280 SL door (1000 thanks to Stephen F who found this door for me). The interior wood was changed, and finally the Coker tires from 2003 are being replaced with Blockley. Sometime in the next few weeks the car will get in an enclosed carrier and be transported to my home. During this time we moved twice settling in Davidson North Carolina. Looking forward to some pothole free roads— after living for more than 30 years in Michigan I realized that the roads would never get improved in my lifetime.

Your Pagoda looks fantastic!  I believe I may have a twin.  Has the paint had paint correction and/or ceramic coation?  Perhaps it has been totall repaint?  Thanks for the post!

Not a total re-spray; just an exceptionally great paint job 20 years ago. The left door is “new” and they did a proper paint job on that, which requires a bit of work forward and behind so the door doesn’t “stand out”. Single stage 568, just done correctly.

Thanks for the comments.  I am strongly considering paint correction and a ceramic coating.  My 230 was originally white and was repainted by the previous (and only other) owner over 25 years ago.  It is a good paint job perhaps not great. Your signal red has a deep and high gloss look, very nice indeed.

Wow those tires are nice and never heard of Blockley tires. I am getting close to replacing my Cokers after 11 years. May I ask how much you paid for shipping?

I’m working with the owner of Blockley to get a “Group Buy” together for our group. This will save for everyone. Stay tuned!!

FINALLY...been picked up. On the way here. Arriving Saturday or Sunday, drivers got stops in Indy and Kentucky. For those curious, it's an 80' fully enclosed car carrier, and the carrier is Mecum Auction's Transport Division. The driver was ecstatic about the automatic transmission (a LOT easier to move). He was curious about the spare tire in the back behind the seats until I told him there's a door in the trunk...

Michael,
Congratulation on being reunited with your car.
It sure looks amazing !!
If I'm not mistaken, there are plenty of fantastic driving roads where you are now living.
Take care,
Mark

You and me both! 😱 When the car was restored 20 years ago or so, the hardtop was left in its original and restored state and placed in the basement of my home. It didn’t move until the summer of 2019 when I took it up to Motorwerks. The car followed in October 2019 and has been there until the other day when it was completed and shipped to me.

In the past few months I have been in Michigan a couple of times and have seen the restored hardtop but never saw it on the car… so this will be a first for me.

Michael,

Great to see that your car is "coming home".  It looks like it shipped this past THU 8 July, and it looks fantastic!  Hopefully arrives soon.

You mentioned you may wish to put ceramic coat on car.  I have my car at Diamond Detailing at this time, they are doing  2 coats, 5 year protection, see attachments they sent today, SAT 10 July.  I am to get it back this coming TUE 13 July.

Here is Diamond Detailing website -https://www.diamonddetailingnc.com/

We need to get together, as you may recall, I am in Mooresville, NC, you are a neighbor in Davidson, NC - we exchanged contact INFO earlier this year.

Best - Michael
