Hello--
OK ordering is now closed. We have received an astounding 476 separate book orders from full, associate and non-members alike. Unpaid invoices that have not made other arrangements or otherwise communicated with us this week will be cancelled. Here is what happens from this point on, keeping you all informed.
Orders will be fully tallied this week and the printing order placed with the printer. Please note that we already have experience with this printer, the quality has been approved and we've run through a prototype process that started late last year. We have full confidence that you too, will be pleased with the final result. The order with the printer was placed this week, and they have what they need to proceed.
Print production will take up to two weeks. We expect to have the books in our possession by mid May. However, this is at the discretion of the printer with their schedule. Maybe they will be early maybe they will be later than the two weeks--but this isn't a time sensitive document so we'll go with what they tell us as an estimate.. The book is in process at the printer now.
The books will be printed in North Carolina, USA. Project lead Alex Djuric has arranged a team to do all the packing and shipping. We expect all orders to be shipped within 2 weeks after receipt from the printer. USA orders will go first only because they require the least amount of work, and are sent individually; they are not bulk packed or trans-shipped.
Books will be well packaged for transit. Each book will be packed in a custom-made corrugated cardboard "mailer", and then this mailer will be placed in a protective poly bubble pack for shipping.
USA orders will be shipped by Media Mail. This service takes, on average, 5-10 days to arrive depending on your location. Media mail is a low cost service and the most prudent means of shipping domestically.
All Non-USA orders will be trans-shipped. We have arranged with member-partners to assist us in Canada, UK, and Australia. All European orders will be sent in bulk packages to the UK, and dropped in the Royal Mail postal system for further conveyance to UK, Africa, and the continent. All Canadian orders will be sent in bulk packages to the greater Toronto area and dropped in Canada Post for further dispatch to Canadian destinations. All Australian, New Zealand and Asian orders will be sent to Australia, and dropped in Australia post for further dispatch to these destinations. This is the best and least costly means of shipping to our worldwide members.
We will continue to keep you informed as these steps progress.
The next update to this post will advise you of when we have received the books from the printer.

The first post in this thread contains information about the project and book shipment. PLEASE! With 450+ book orders, yes that's from 450+ people, please be advised that I cannot be answering separate emails for those that don't come to the forums...so please go to that post. The forums were designed to be our primary means of communication so please use them.
I will not be answering personal emails about "where's my book" or "when can I expect delivery"...as there is news to report on the project that first post in this thread will be modified.
Right now the book is at the printer and there will be NO NEWS for two weeks...

As promised, here is an update:
We have received the books from the printer--all 55 boxes of them weighing 1,100 pounds.
We had custom-made protective boxes fabricated for the books; these are only to protect in shipping.
We have received the poly bubble protective mailers from our supplier.
We have received the blank shipping labels from another supplier.
We have assembled a small team of volunteers here to assist in the packing, to occur on June 12.
The domestic (USA) shipments should start going out on June 14
The non-USA shipments should go out the week of June 21. The plan is to ship these in bulk by DHL or other private carrier to a few volunteers in Canada, Australia and UK for eventual drop in the local mail systems for final delivery.
If you have received an invoice for your book and paid for it, all is well. We show no unpaid invoices.

As per our plans, all of the books have been boxed and packaged. Alex arranged a team of volunteers who all met in the tiny rural town of Moncure North Carolina yesterday.
Approximately 90 of the USA destined books were left at the post office at the end of day yesterday Saturday, June 12.
The balance of the USA orders will go out in the next few days. As they are being shipped by media mail delivery can be anywhere from 3 to 10 days. It all depends on the post office and your local delivery system where you are. Please do not inquire about the delivery because I can’t possibly answer 500 emails and have no information once it leaves. I will report back here as to when the balance of the USA orders have been dropped into the mail.
All the overseas orders will begin to leave next week in the transship operation as previously described.

Got a notice from PayPal yesterday that it was on the way (also from the USPS). Something to look forward too and will definitely make my 2 mile RT trek to our community mail box worth while. Thanks again to all that made this happen.

Yes, that's the way PayPal works. Everyone who ordered a book provided an email address to which we sent the PayPal invoice and in which you paid from that.
Once we create a shipping label (ONLY for USA shipments) in PayPal, you'll get an email from PayPay about the shipment. If you've signed up for the delivery notifications from the USPS you'll get a separate note from them.
Sounds easy enough...but believe it or not there are those whose names don't match the PayPal address which doesn't match the shipping address. I noticed with a couple of labels being prepared yesterday that PayPal altered information on the Invoice to that in their records, not to the information we entered. So, if you are one of those people who borrowed your brother in law's PayPal, or if you have a different address on file with PayPal than you provided to us, not much we can do about it. We are preparing the shipping labels according to the invoice information. PayPal takes over from there. Most are not changed. Of course there are always a few situations that will have to be sorted out with special efforts.
I tracked a couple of those packages today; please don't expect delivery on those shipped yesterday before Monday June 21.
Our plan for the non USA orders is to ship them in bulk to Canada, Australia and UK for further dispatch by a couple of our friendly members here in the respective mail systems of those countries and not rely on the US Mail to at all for these.

This is the remaining books that did not get out on Saturday… I expect to have the rest of the USA books out by Thursday latest.
As others have pointed out, you will receive an email directly from PayPal and or the US post office upon shipment. In that email will be the tracking number so you can track this yourself at www.usps.com.
You will note that each book is individually packed regardless of the number of books in the order. If you ordered two or more books, this will be two or more packages strapped together but each one individually wrapped.

Mike, yours was "Invoice #1" and the first shipping label to be printed, and thus in the first batch to leave. Alex and volunteer Tom Lewis dropped this batch off at the small Sanford, NC post office on Saturday June 12.
It was my intent to process these in the order received, but due to a variety of issues in the way PayPal ( >:() works, and my need to keep an orderly track of everything for the inevitable issues that may arrive, I was not able to do that.
Going through all the USA shipments one by one and getting them out the door. Next week the overseas shipments begin.

AlexD was the driving force behind the project. Like a pit bull.
Amy provided guidance, the "small gift" that was inside, and the designer who worked with the pages to put them into book form.
JonnyB worked hard at getting all the old pages together and was part of the review team.
Tom Lewis--not a member here, but a Mercedes junkie in NC--provided the workspace in which all the books were packaged up, with a team of additional Mercedes junkie volunteers. That was boxing, stuffing, sealing, and re-boxing all 550 books. I was busy in the "label department" but I think there were about six volunteers in total, including the mayor of Fuquay-Varina, NC who IS a member here. It was "all hands on deck" on Saturday, basically all day.
I added my expertise in printing and publishing, but also in keeping some semblance of order to issuing invoices, processing payments, and arranging shipping in the most expedient manner.
Truly a joint effort.

I’m ASTONISHED at how quickly the Media Mail is making it around the country. I would not have expected any deliveries until tomorrow the 21st based upon the rate specifications.
Much thought went into the packaging to assure they won’t get damaged.

ALL USA SHIPMENTS ARE DONE.
You should have received a notice from PayPal (at the PayPal address YOU provided and USED for payment) with the shipping detail AND tracking number. A large number have gone out yesterday and today; they won't be officially scanned into the USPS system until tomorrow, and then again it takes them 24 hours to update.
All the shipments were made between June 11 and today. None earlier. YOU can track it yourself at www.usps.com. A large number have arrived already.
This week, the balance of shipments for all other locations will leave; they will go by private courier to three or four locations in Canada, Australia and UK. Once they arrive, a few of your fellow members will be posting them in the local mail system. This will speed up delivery considerably over each individual package leaving the USA through the USA mail system, and save the club some postage and shipping fees in the process.

OK, early this morning, ALL the international (non-USA) books were sent in bulk to four of your fellow VOLUNTEER members.
George Henne in Toronto will be re-mailing all the CANADA books.
Matthew Stickley in Australia will be re-mailing all the AUSTRALIA and other PacRim books.
David Robinson in Ireland will be re-mailing all the European Union and other continental books.
James Lester in London will be re-mailing all the UK books.
This is a massive effort. All of those books were sent by private courier (UPS) and are all going to arrive within the week. At that point, we begin the re-mailing process. Each label has to be ordered, bought, emailed, and then printed at the remote destinations. As there are ~180 books involved, this will take some time...PLEASE BE PATIENT. We're all working hard on this.
Doing it this way saves a considerable amount for your club's funds, and allowed us to keep the book price to what it was. If we were to mail them directly, each one individually, from the USA, it would add about $15-$25 to the cost of EACH BOOK. Since international mail has been costly and slow, this re-mailing scheme should work out well. Fortunately, the low cost of domestic USA shipping via Media Mail helped to subsidize the rest of the publication's shipping costs, and we were able to create a reasonable price for everyone that didn't vary if you were in Poland or Pennsylvania, Switzerland or Surrey, New York or New Caledonia.
So a hearty round of thanks to these international volunteers, helping make this club THE BEST.

I received my Volume ! Pagoda World compilation today. What an outstanding effort and final product. Thank you for all of the work in putting the book together and managing the logistics. Initially, we thought we would have less than 100 takers. We ended up with over 500 loyal Pagodists.
My first thought in leafing through this is how much we owe to the founders and early contributors to this amazing Group. Some or our current leaders were kids when this started, many of those old leaders have moved or passed on. I'll put together a tribute under a separate post shortly. I'm sure this group will have different players in another 30 years, and our names will fade into the annals of the Pagoda World. Such is the Circle of a Pagoda Owner's life.

They filled the mailbox completely, so the door wasn't closing. I had to rock the mailbox around so the pile inside settled. Of course, that's when the neighbours came around to question why I was vandalizing it...

In comparing them to my originals (Which I have all of them) you could not tell them apart.
Excellent printing, glad I purchased it.
By the way, it took almost a week to get here, it sat in Davidson and Western Mass for 2 days each.
Goes to show you the Post Office is still not up to par.
Example, I sent one copy of one of the issues to Dieter in Canada, He is not far from me, it took over 10 days to reach him.
Good Job.
Is volume 2 in the beginning stages, meaning have you started in your mind about getting things in place for #2.
Also I did not realize you relocated from Mich to NC.

Remember this was sent MEDIA mail, NOT PRIORITY nor first class. MEDIA mail is on average, 7-10 days.
I created your shipping label on Saturday afternoon, June 19th.
It was dropped at the PO on Sunday June 20th. Nothing is scanned or moves on Sunday at the local level.
For some reason (highly unusual) it was not scanned into the system until Tuesday June 22...So it sat in Davidson (small town PO, population 12,000) on Monday June 21. Probably in a pile of other Media Mail shipments.
Once scanned, it made it to the local distribution center in Greensboro within two hours, and that center is a 90 minute drive. Not too bad.
It arrived at Springfield MA the next day, June 23rd. On the 27th it made it too Lunenberg. It was delivered on the 29th. They balance loads with Media Mail, hence the longer delivery time in exchange for a discounted price.
That's a total transit time of 8 days. For just around $4. Priority Mail would have been nearly $12, with delivery in 2-3 days.
I'm not complaining and I hope you are not either.
Our use of Media Mail for the USA shipments, in combination with our trans-shipping scheme, allowed us to charge a reasonable rate for ALL of our members.
Yes, I moved from MI to NC early in 2020.
We are all pleased with the printing. Others worked long and hard to ensure we created a quality product that will live on.

If all goes as planned we are looking at Pagoda World Book Volume 2 being shipped sometime in October/November of this year.
And a possible Pagoda World Book Volume 3 in 2022.

All the UK shipping labels have been purchased and are now in the hands of our UK member James Lester who will get these out shortly; this includes Malta, Switzerland, and South Africa. Canadians were handled by George Henne...
Remaining starting Monday are all EU dispatching via AnPost from Ireland, and Australia and Pacific Rim going out of Australia.
The Royal Mail and Canada Post label purchases went off without issue.

When we open this up for ordering late in summer, the procedure will be identical to that used for Volume 1.
Requests will be made to a dedicated email just for that purpose. Not here.
You will receive a PayPal invoice to be paid.
When the project is concluded, we'll order the books and begin the shipping.

GROUP effort, and lots of thanks to our four international “fulfillment team” members of George Henne in Toronto, Matt Stickley in Australia, David Robinson in Ireland, and James Lester in London. These guys are trains shipping all of the international books. So far all of the UK and Canadian books have departed through the local post there and starting early this week the European Union and Australia will be taken care of and posted. Truly a massive international effort. When I think of how many people have been involved in all parts of the USA to just get the book published and packed, and then these guys helping with the international shipping it’s just amazing.
To quote a character on an old television show, “I love it when a plan comes together”.

The original suggestion was that I’d send out all of europe (small e). Then I realised that might create delays and customs issues as the UK is no longer part of Europe (big E)
So the EU based members will get their copies via Ireland. Being printed matter it should not be an issue to send and have customs get involved but the view was one of avoiding the risk of fees being levied. So EU members get theirs from an EU country. This Brexit stuff is my new reality. Not sure I like it so much…
I sent 36 packs out to the UK, and 9 to Non-EU countries like Sth Africa & Switzerland.

Just wanted to scope the potential time of arrival, whenever it will be. It is a holiday time, etc. and I would hate if the package goes back as it is not picked up.

James Lester got it all correct. I'm the "architect" of this shipping madness and believe me, it's working fabulous so far.
All the information has been clearly posted here over the past weeks. But let me reiterate for those that have not been reading or paying attention.
The cost to mail each package as an individual package directly from the USA, using the US Postal Service and then the local Postal Service in your country was astronomical, except for those packages delivered in the USA. Those were sent Media Mail. Media Mail, for the Americans who don't know, used to be called "Book Rate" and is a low cost shipping method for books and certain other media. We were able to ship the books in the USA for about $4 each to USA addresses.
The cost, by contrast to reach Canada was well over $32; the cost for most of EU was $40; and the cost for Australia/PacRim was about $44. On a $65 book, that's a bit "outrageous" as I'm sure you'll agree.
So, the solution was to use the local postal services, and a few volunteers for a "trans-shipping" operation. For all non-USA books, I managed to land them in Canada, Australia, Ireland and UK for just over USD $8 per book by private courier, UPS. Adding the local postage on top of that such as CDN $12 or £3 for UK makes it a bargain. The bulk shipments arrived in days, and the local post so far in Canada and UK is moving them fast as well. I can tell you with certainty if I had mailed them all at once from the USA, they would not yet be starting deliveries; we're seeing 2-4 weeks on things shipped directly from USA. Not cool.
All the Canada packages were posted late last week, and as I write this now, I'm getting numerous emails from Canada Post about deliveries around Canada. James Lester posted all the UK ones late last week as well, and those are beginning to arrive in UK.
Over the next couple of days, the Australian ones will be posted. It is a bit of an effort to get online to each countries postal system, create an account, buy postage, PDF the label, and email to our member-volunteer. It went smoothly so far, just time consuming for Canada and UK. I expect about the same for Australia and EU.
Unfortunately, the EU group--by far the largest quantity--has not yet been delivered to David Robinson in Ireland. The packages are there, and cleared customs, but still waiting delivery.
So, Paweł and others, yours will be in the mail later this week, and I'd imagine delivery by the end of next week.

Just to elaborate on a point in Michael’s post…
Once I got the two UPS boxes, with the books,a list of recipients and some sticky labels I told Michael I’d received them.
The wonder of the internet meant he went onto the Royal Mail website and paid for postage for each recipient - sitting in North Carolina to pay for postage from London to CapeTown…
He then batched these in a file of 10 labels in pdf format and emailed them to me. My job was print, stick, post…
So really, Michael did all the work on the postage.

We have a few extra copies of PW Book Volume 1 in case some get damaged or lost during shipping. Once we are sure that everyone who ordered a book received it, the few extra copies will be available for purchase but at additional shipping cost because we will not be able to use the bulk shipping rates.
We will advise in a future post when the extra copies will be available.

All the AUSTRALIA labels have been bought and paid for and emailed over to Matt Stickley in Queensland. He will do his best to get these out shortly.
The other PacRim countries (NZ, Japan, etc.) unfortunately were choking the Australia Post to where it said "try again later". I'll try on Tuesday. If not we have a Plan B. Not to worry.
By the way, contrary to James' suggestion that I did this from my home in North Carolina, no such luck! I was on holiday in the north of Michigan, working on a laptop, with this view in my sights...Lake Michigan at Onekama, looking towards Wisconsin. From the back deck of my dear friends who let us come and play with them.

I didn't have any of the Pagoda World copies up to no.10 so plenty of interesting reading to catch up on now.

Update 6-July 15:43pm.
ALL Australian shipping labels, which now include New Caledonia, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and New Zealand have all been purchased, downloaded and dispatched to Matt Stickley in Queensland, Australia for posting.
There are three packages containing all the European Union books that are now a week overdue on the way to David Robinson in Ireland. I don't know if they will be delivered tomorrow, or next week. They are in Ireland, but held up at a customs broker for UPS. I find this tragically humorous how basically the same set of packages (give or take the quantity of books inside) can make it to Canada, Australia and UK in literally days, and Ireland (as launch point for EU) is so delayed.
We're working the system to try and get these freed up so they can be dispatched to the group members here from the EU. David was very keen to help and volunteer here and I'm trying my best to get these on the way.

Matt Stickley has posted all the internationals from Australia, and the Australia domestics will leave on July 8th.
Still waiting for the European Union packages to be released to Ireland Customs. We don't know the issue yet other than they are somewhere in Ireland at a UPS designated broker.

So nice to see all these books have been arriving in the condition that they were sent: carefully packaged to prevent any damage.
Update for European Union: our good friend and international volunteer David Robinson in Ireland has located the packages containing all the EU books. Some foul-up at UPS with their broker, etc. but now the packages have been located and should be delivered shortly.
I will then begin the "final process" of buying, creating and sending the labels by email to David so that they can be posted shortly.

European Union shipments will begin being dispatched out of Ireland later this week. We will keep you advised on this thread and also notify you when they have been completed.
There were delays that were unavoidable caused by the carrier, UPS. We believe all has been resolved at the moment. One package arrived today and the other two packages containing the balance of books is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

I just received word from our member volunteer in Ireland, David Robinson, that all the packages containing the books for the European Union have now arrived and are in his possession.
Together we will work to ensure that everything gets posted as quick as possible. I’d imagine some will go out this week and the rest no later than Monday or Tuesday.

As mentioned all EU books are now in the hands of our member David Robinson in Ireland, and these will be begin to flow out of Ireland to your respective countries over the next few days, and be completed early next week. There are approximately 100 books, give or take, going to France, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Spain, etc. I'll be working with David over the next days, precisely as I did with George Henne for Canada, Matt Stickley for Australia, and James Lester for UK who all sent the packages out quickly.
All books to USA, Canada, Australia/PacRim, and UK/European non-EU (such as Switzerland) have been sent. All should be arriving or have arrived.
For this and future endeavors of this nature, the FORUMS are the main way of communicating.

NOTE: The first 50 (out of 80) shipping labels have been purchased and send to Ireland between yesterday and today. Those 50 will be in the post today.
The balance (30) will be completed on Friday, today, and be posted on Monday.
All books are being sent "small packet" service which carries, normally, a 2-3 day delivery time.

I think only one was going to Portugal and that would be you! But in the past week we’ve heard from South Africa, and Poland. So I would like to believe that all of them that were dispatched out of Ireland for the European Union and related have probably arrived!
