Title: linkage does not open Fully the trottle ...
Post by: erickmarciano on April 23, 2021, 01:24:24
Hi guys got a 280Sl Euro 4 sp.
going over the linkage again and have a few questions ?

I adjusted the injection pump Rod with the hole in the linkage , then the venturi . i adjusted the venturi as per the linkage tour <closed just before it starts binding).

1-I disconnected the linkage going to the Engine block and . If open the linkage full by hand the pump hits the stop but the venturi still has like 3mm before it is full opened .is this normal?

2- I was never able to adjust my gas pedal properly it need a complete reset since the  settings on the firewall  were messed with.the tour does not show in how to do this . I guess we start with the top of Engine linkage then...?

thanks
Erick Marciano

Eric,

The linkage tour in the Tech Manual sets out perfectly the steps needed to set up your linkages.

The Venturi lever does stay open just a bit when the FI pump is on its stop. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg. I second what Garry says and joining is a great investment in your car. The linkage tour will show you the MANY in and outs of the system. The linkage design is typical of the many functions on this car. Intricate and complex. Being a member of this group will give you the tools and info to set your car up the way it is supposed to be.

As for your question about the gas pedal - you are a Full Member. Gas pedal work is mentioned in the Linkage Tour.

I may add: look carefully along gas pedal shaft and levers so that nothing blocks the movement.

I still don’t find it clear

The engine linkages are all good
Should the vertical link image have to be under tension to connect to the one with the roller ?

Let’s say from the pedal to the engine pivot and vertical linkage is all messed up how do we go about in sertting  it up ?
Thanks

Have in mind that even if you adjust your linkages as per the excellent linkage tour article there will still be a few mm at the end of the throttle travel that cannot be reached, ie throttle would open 95% of its full opening potential. I understand that your car is a euro spec manual so you wouldn’t have the split linkage on your Venturi rod.
