Title: Early Euro 250SL Wheels Details
Post by: SilverSpear on March 26, 2021, 11:34:29
Hi all,

Was just reading this https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=25689.25 (https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=25689.25) thread now and wanted to reply to it instead of starting a new one. Anyways...
Appreciate if someone can share the date stamp details that should exist on my wheels. My car's manufacturing date is July 67. As for the beauty rings and caps, should their back side be colored in 'body color' too?

Thanks!

The wiki links in the thread you noted should give you the details you need about the paint colors.

You are correct the wheel covers for a 280SL are "military green" on the back side:

However, the inside of the small 230SL hubcaps could have been a grayish color:

here is another description of the paint process;

I see that you are an associate member. Being a full member allows you access to the tech manual, well worth the modest cost of membership.

For the wheel date codes, the "Search" is your friend. Use the search in the string of items starting with "Home" I entered "wheel date code" (but don't use quote marks) and got a single page of items. Scan through those and you should have a good understanding of the date code stampings.

Well honestly I was searching for the dates. Maybe didn't input the right words there.
Will give it a try again, thanks for the links!

Yes, will register for a full membership as soon as I can. Thing is my country is in a "pickle" right now, all outer payments are suspended by the government, including CCs.

The search works for all members, it searches the forum. So you should be able to get some good information from that.

I did not realize there were CC holds like that in effect.
