Title: My 1970 280SL Arrived
Post by: MS616 on March 21, 2021, 15:56:00
Hello my Friends,

I'm privileged to be joining your wonderful club. I took delivery of my beautiful 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda Automatic yesterday 03/20/2021. I've been lusting over the 280SL Pagoda for five years, and considering to acquire seriously the past two. Finally, an opportunity came along that I couldn't say no to.

Welcome to the forum, MS616.  You have yourself a very lovely car!

Four photos per post is the limit.  You must use multiple posts for additional pictures.

Not trying to be critical but I was wondering if the rear quarter panel chrome trim is missing on the drivers side also?  We don’t seem to have a picture of that side of the car.  There are always seem to be a few warts to sort out on a new purchase!

Congratulations from me too, beautiful car.
Yes, the chrome strip is missing and the sill cover should be black, not the color of the car. You have to understand, such small mistakes magically attract our tested eyes.
But these are trouble-free little things.
Enjoy your toys and look forward to a fancy car.
Peter

From the first set of pictures, I was going to say: The car sure needs a proper "garage mate". Then came the second set - or were these taken at the selling party?

Appreciate it, she is a beauty. Love her and the drive is so wonderful. Yes, it's missing on both ends. I'll have to source it and have it installed :)

Thank you dear Mike. Those photos are from the Dealerships. She has had some previous brothers and sisters who are no longer with us. Attached are a few of her parted friends. Currently the line up is the 1970 280SL and a 2013 Toyota Camry.  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks !
It did run , but needed to be fined tuned and some work done to it . My restorer transported it to his shop in Leesburg. It has 68k on it and we are keeping everything as original as possible .

Wow, wonderful. Mine is going trough a nice restoration with Charles Taylor out of Falls Church. God willing, I will have her back the last week of May. I can't wait for some Great Falls Cars & Coffee and whatever else is local. I also reside in Northern Virginia (Leesburg) :)

I used a Private Party trough Dispatch and it was wonderful. $900 Enclosed & Insured and 24 hour delivery from Atlanta to Here. The 3rd week of May, I'll have it back. It's with Charles Taylor out of Falls Church.

Yes congrats on the Pagoda!  What is the official colour designation of the "Red".  Was it the original colour?  Looks great!

Yes MS616, Welcome.

You will find members here to be approachable, very knowledgeable and competent, and generous with their time and expertise. Being a member for less than a year, I am consistently surprised with the spirit and passion the members have for these cars.

The technical information within the site is expansive. I suggest you take a few hours per week and just browse and explore. I promise you will wowed by the amounts of effort invested.

Interestingly, my 230 is color designated as Singal Red also.  Your color appears considerably deeper and darker than does mine,  I like it.  I suppose it could be the lighting or is it possible, which I seriously doubt,  that there is a variation in the color from 230 to 280 in a standard MB color?  Do any members have an opinion on this?

I noticed the dealership that sold the vehicle adds a bit of high gloss touch to all their photos. I'll post natural photos soon.
