Title: Window Sticker (Sales sticker)
Post by: alpina on February 22, 2021, 15:24:03
After reading old posts re the original window stickers / Sales sticker, and not being lucky to have
one myself.  I thought I would set out to recreate one for my car. With the kind help of John aka 49er
for showing what is on the rear of the document. I have now recreated the window stickers used for US
cars from 1966 – 1973. If anyone has one from earlier years I would very much like to see them.

This is very cool for US car owners; of course it's going to lead to us European (Germany) owners looking for the same thing  JB

Very nice indeed, given that the original document was supplied by MB, I'm surprised that MB Classic is unable to duplicate or not wishing to dig through past files.

Very nice job, alpinaltd.

I don't have a window sticker as my car was a Tourist Order for delivery at the factory.  The Original order form was typed on the flimsy multi-part blue tinted paper very similar to your posted window sticker.

It includes the star emblem in the blue field (although not visible in my scan ).  What I have is a photocopy of the Dealer's copy and a photocopy of the Customer Acknowledgment copy. One is a little more smudged than the other due to the multi-part carbon paper used with the typewriter!

Just curious Ralph, are the production number in the upper right of this document and the production number on your data card the same?

Almost Mike! The production number on the order confirmation is 8707-4276 J.  On the data card it is 87074276.  The  "dash" and the "J" are not shown on the data card. I think it is remarkable that the production number was set at the factory before the order was confirmed to the customer.

Looks like fuel economy was not required on car sales stickers before 1975?

thanks,

The Monroney sticker or window sticker is a label required in the United States to be displayed in all new automobiles and includes the listing of certain official information about the car.
The Automobile Information Disclosure Act of 1958, which mandated the disclosure of equipment and pricing information on new automobiles.
Since the mid-1970s the United States Environmental Protection Agency provides fuel economy metrics in the label to help consumers choose more fuel-efficient vehicles.

I  do not know if window stickers were used in other countries.
Regarding the prices in the above examples, I have the price list cards for US delivered cars from 1965 onwards.
For any one that is interested I have recreated all the Styles of window sticker for MB cars from 1965 to the present day.

This is the window sticker from my 1968 280SL.  Unfortunately, I don’t have the original.  It is very similar to Alpinaltd’s 1969 model, but less of the no cost items are listed. Also, the delivery charge looks like it was higher in Boston than Seattle.

Received mine today.  Like all of Darren’s work, it’s flawless!  Kudos.

I have just discovered this post. I love what you have done. I have been wondering if there is a way to find out the name and location of the dealer of my car from the dealer number in my data card?

I had been told that the car had originally been bought from a dealer in Texas.

My 280SL was manufactured in August of 1969. I am wondering if you would be willing to make a version based on the specs for my car? Or, is there a way that I could do it?

Is there a source for the paper that would be appropriate to print the window price list out on?

This is great! Thank you so much for putting these together!

Kind regards,
Roland

I have received my window sticker! Very nicely done!

I found some multipart perfed computer paper on Amazon. I think it should be great to use as the material to print the window sticker.

Best,
RB

This thread has really intrigued me.  Is it possible for some original European Pagoda purchasers chime in on this thread and comment if they had/have a "Window Sales Sticker"  My 230SL is a 1965 Germany, Koln delivered car hypothetically 17 May 1965.

Were there stickers for this era in Europe?

I notice in the first picture it says :

Mercedes Benz 230 Sl Coup Roadster

But then underneath it mentions 4 wheel disk brakes.

I thought all 230's had rear drum brakes ?

Ray - Sharp eye!  You're right.

I  do not know if window stickers were used in other countries.

Anyone - My car was originally sold in Italy.  What did the various European markets have if not a "window sticker"?

As a Germany delivery, I too would be very interested in what paperwork, stickers, etc would be included for a 1965 230SL
