GM's reply leads tpo an additional question. His replacement used has padding. My present covering does not?

No padding in my 230SL and my 280SL.
The original vinyl is NLA but the vinyl used on Porsche Targa roofs is very close.

My 64 230sl had bitumen type sound deadening under it on the bottom (horizontal) surface but not the back.
