How do you transfer a quote, ' paragraph ,' to a message reply.

I know how to highlight it in the comment but can't seem to then transfer that to my message board. I thought that after highlighting it you clicked on quote and that would transfer the highlighted section but it transfers the whole message.

Help this dinosaur please.

You press the quote button instead of the reply button. In between the quote marks

[quote] and [/quote] you delete superfluous text, but leave the quote marks intact. Like what I did here.
