Title: W11x Clutch
Post by: larryled on January 11, 2021, 20:44:46
At attachment is the original Clutch from my W111 Coupe, along with parts to rebuild it.  However, I cannot figure out how to disassemble the damn thing!  Appreciate info on how to do that.  Thanks, LLLL

My only question is why? You can buy new ones I'd imagine.   This is not for a home rebuilding.

I recently bought a clutch pressure plate for my W128 220SE from the Classic Center. The charged a core and I guess they send these back to rebuild.

I have the same pressure plate in my 250sl. What is the solution to replace it ? Buy a new one rebuilt in exchange for your old one ? Is not possible to put the pressure plate typical of a 280sl ? This is something I do not understand .

You can use a 280SL style pressure plate in a 250SE. I'm running that set up in my car.

Removal of the nuts at each of the three fingers will allow you to dis-assemble the unit. These are not normally rebuilt by the do-it-your-selfer.  The face of the pressure plate may need re-surfaced and the height of the fingers at final assembly should be to spec and all exactly equal when measured with a dial indicator once the pressure plate is bolted down. The nuts are to be locked once everything is to spec. Use new lock nuts since they are crimped and only meant to be used once. This is a very basic job for a re-builder with all the equipment and knowledge. I use to have a competition pressure plate built on the old rally car by having double springs installed. Finding a good rebuilder should not be difficult. Try the local hot rod shops. Mercedes Technical Data Manuals should have all the specs needed.

Just in case I put the 280 sl pressure plate on my 250, what other modifications I have to do ? The slave cylinder ? The release fork ? Which release bearing ?
This pressure plate has the right alignment to fit in the 250sl flywheel ?
