Is there a bracket for the rear license plate or is it simply bolted to the rear panel?
-
I have a chromium bracket (Europe format) which them is bolted to the rear panel, see picture inside.
-
The chrome moulding sits under the rear license plate. P/N 113 698 0081. Other than that, the plate mounts plain to the rear panel.
-
I made a bracket to adapt the existing holes to fit my license. Used small rubber standoffs between it and the paint to prevent chafing

My 250sl has gone through extensive restoration. Rear panel and both quarter panels were renewed.
There are no holes for the moulding or the number plate. I am thinking of sticking both with 3M double sided tape.
Is that ok. Please comment.
Thank you

Why not just drill the holes?

I did that 6 years ago and it is holding. I used no frame. I used the double sided adhesive tape for the chrome trim under the license plate as well. There are special tapes for gluing in the emblems, but I guess a good 3M will do.

Thanks all for the comments.
