Title: W11X seat cover help
Post by: col320ce on November 09, 2020, 21:04:19
I'm getting through the interior to the 250SE/Cp and where everything is original I feel it's going well, however there are a few places were some of the worn leather has been replaced ... this means someone has been there before me so it's no so simple to see how it all goes together.

Can anyone tell me if the correct way of holding the rear seat back cover on is to glue the muslin fabric to the frame and use the metal clips (see picture for the metal clips)?

And has anyone got photos of how the front seat backs were originally padded?  I have the horsehair pads but what other foam was there?

Thanks!

My seats were just redone by a guy who sticks very close to what they factory did. That being said, he will do some variations if he thinks it is a better method. He would do it if it was better, not just saving time and effort like many. I cannot post anything until tonight, but will do that. The seats are off the car, so I can take different angles if you need.

Here are the pics from my rear seat. It is a combination of Muslin fabric held on with hog clips on the sides and then fiber strips at the edges of the leather being held in the slots (top and bottom). No glue that I am aware of. Not sure it that is 100% factory, but seems pretty clean to me. not sure I have seen those clips that are on yours.

As far as padding, the horse hair is used. Then integral with the covers is foam padding. We did not add any foam other than what was on the seat cover. My guy did a fantastic job and the seat looks great. ALMOST, too good to sit on! :)

I hope that helps.

Hi Wallace
You are being so I valuable to the interior resto!
Do you have any pictures of the glovebox (before and afters if you have them)?

No after pictures of the glove box, but plenty of before. Since (4) is the attachment limit, I'll go to another post.

I forgot what that hook was for on the far right side of the box. Yours would be opposite presumably. Other than that, pretty self explanatory. I had to shore up the box structure with epoxy on some points were it had become weak. The rust stains are from the windshield wiper posts.

Continued..... I actually saw these photos a couple of days ago when looking for something else. I wondered then if you might need them!

I also included a picture of the original leather that is glued on to the dash. NOTE - this MUST be skived leather. Using regular thickness will cause fit issues.

I also included a picture of my front seat WITH headrests from 2015 to show you what a mess it was. Now you know why I got rid of that. Just did not turn out well.

Thanks Wallace!
That's perfect.
I'll post some after pictures... Hopefully fairly soon.
