Title: Left and Right Front Fenders/Guards
Post by: Duncan200 on October 24, 2020, 05:09:59
Hi All,

Looking for some front fenders or as we call them here in Australia, guards for my 113.

I literally just need the front 3 or 4 inch sections to patch in to repair some nasty repair work I’ve found as per the attached pic.

The rest of the fender can be rusted away as long as the section the headlight buckets fit in to are reasonable.

Thanks.

You're better off just buying some new ones from the dealer.

Appreciate the sentiment and I am definitely considering it, but at the prices the dealers charge in Australia, they should be called stealers 😂.

Don’t really want to be unpicking welds given I only need the front sections.

Thought I’d at least give it a shot on here.

Have you considered just getting new headlight buckets and then having patch panels fabricated by hand for the fender part, using the buckets as guide? I think that should be quite do-able for an experienced person. (I am myself a complete novice but am surprised at what I am already able to do with just a $40 hammer and dolly set from Harbor Freight).

That's a tricky part to make. Not only is it round, but it's also curving down or in as it goes forward. And, it's a small section. You would need a shrinker, an english wheel, and a lot of skill to make that part.

You can buy the fenders also from known suppliers at significantly lesser prices. They may not be quiet as good as OEM but since you don't need the whole fender, it may be worth considering .
Did you check the upper cross frame sections in the fenders? This is a known week spot, since you are working in that area.

Dirk,

I’ve gone over the car and other than a hole in the floor under the accelerator pedal (on the right side of my car of course), the rest of the car is solid.

It seems to have had a minor accident in the front in its previous life and they obviously didn’t want to unpick the fenders/guards for repair.

I’m going to try contacting a wrecker locally to see if he can help, otherwise I’ll look at new guards and cut off what I need.

If I add up freight, customs duties, gst etc on ordering repro panels out of the States or Europe, they end up costing me almost as much as genuine panels here.

Going to visit a few panel shops in my area and see how handy they’d be at making up the small section at the front if I get a new nose and nose support.

Thanks for your input.

Sounds good. Good luck.

I am seeing in Daimler system, the EPC. Both headlight housing buckets are available and they cost ca $100 each. In e.g. SLS they are for EUR 60 each.

Doug,
If I may. If I bought new fenders, guards, wings, what ever we call them, I would not cut off the front ends. I realise it is a major operation but I would seriously consider replacing the entire section.
I am sure the more experienced members will raise their opinions and advice.

Doug,

Have you given a call to MBSpares (John) in Canberra.  He holds lots of second hand spares and with luck you may jag some guards although being welded that may be difficult.
