Title: CSV solenoid

I have gone through forums. Couldn’t get a definite answer.
I have taken out the CSV solenoid. The push rod seems to be jammed. I applied 12 volts to it. I get a spark when power applied but the push rod does not push out. I tried moving the rod but there is no movement in it. Does it mean it is jammed , knackered and need to be replaced?

From what you are describing the CSV solenoid isn't working.  When I've applied 12V to the one I have the shaft pops out a few mm.

Could be internally seized. You should be able to move the shaft in and out without power. Does it do that? If not, it is seized. I suppose you could try a penetrant and see what happens. Got nothing to lose.

If you are really at an end with it try chucking the pin in a drill and see if you can get it to spin.  If you get it to spin the try to slowly work it in and out while spinning the pin.

There was a post on here a while back explaining how to drill a small hole in the back in order to get a punch onto the back of the shaft and free it. You then tap the hole and plug it with a grub screw. I've recently gone through all of my old seized ones and got every one of them working again.
EDIT: I was having a senile moment and I was referring to the idle solenoid, not the cold start!

Thank you all. With your help I managed to free the shaft. It was really badly. I grabbed the shaft in the vice and managed to persuade it to move. And it still works.

Thanks all. The solenoid is fixed.
While the solenoid was out I accidentally put the ignition on and the petrol gushed out of the hole where the solenoid fitted.
Is that right?  Or something is wrong with the CSV.

I opened up the CSV. It is a very simple device. It is a valve   Open and shut by the solenoid and the spring. The solenoid was stuck and the brass valve was stuck in open position. That’s why the fuel was gushing out of the aperture where the solenoid fitted. Cleaned and ground the seat with chrome polish. Pulled the spring a bit longer.
All works perfect.
