Yes and had the same problem. I will have to look tomorrow at what parts I used.

I have to change my speedo cable as well.  I see in the photo that the handbrake cable is still in place, but the protective tunnel metal piece is removed.  How did you do this since the handbrake pulley (don't know the exact technical term) is also attached to the tunnel and I was afraid of disturbing the handbrake adjustment?

I haven't done anything to the handbrake... Looks like you have found another thing for me to fix up!  :o

The hand break cable goes forward and is attached to the bottom of the long lever. Only a single cotter pin holds the cable to the bottom of the lever under the car. Make sure the emergency brake is all the way in and simply remove the cotter pin. No adjustments needed.

The speedo cable goes into the clamp #112 270 01 13. That housing has an O-ring that can leak and is #000 997 68 45. What happened to me was that when my W111 car sat for two weeks or longer, the trans fluid would drain out of the fluid coupler and fill the pan. This level would go above the housing O-ring and would leak. I replaced that O-ring and the leaked stopped. I also noticed that the speedo clamp on the housing was cracked and probably due to over tightening. I have a replacement but never installed it.

There is also a plate with a gasket (#112 274 01 80) that allows you to remove the gear drive in the trans from the speedo cable. That is attached to the trans case and can also leak. All of these part numbers come from EPC or whatever Mercedes calls it now. If you do not have it, it is worth the cost or use Niemoller for their drawings. I hope this helps.

At one point EPC was really cheap or free...do you know what the going rate for it is now? I feel I bit dim but I haven't managed to work out how to get access to it.

I think it is $75 for a year. I get a free subscription now because I am with the 190SL group.

Hi Wallace
Do you remember how easy it was to replace the o-ring seal 000 997 68 45? I haven't undone anything yet but it looks like I need to remove the plate to be able to remove the bearing body to replace the o-ring.  I'm hoping it's just the o-ring; there doesn't appear to be a leak from the plate.
Thanks!

I am a bit foggy on this but, the O-ring is on the housing that the speedo cable goes into. So the housing has to come out and do not remember what that required. It was not difficult though and extremely rewarding when done. I haven’t had a leak there now in years.

Also to be sure to inspect the housing for cracks. If the clamp was ever over tightened, it can cause a crack. Mine was and I replaced it. The crack may have been leak source as a well.

Good luck.

Excellent... I'll take some photos and post back a short "how to".  Still waiting on the parts though.
