Title: 230SL Engine Photo Request
Post by: mistertj on July 05, 2020, 13:11:39
My 230SL engine seems to be a little too close to the firewall but I do not have a way to confirm or dismiss that. Here is how my engine sits now in relation to the firewall. Might someone have a similar photo that I can look at. Many thanks.

The distance is good, all are like it.

Hi,
the position of your engine looks good, see att. picture of a 250SL*.
Sometimes it's necessary to lift the rear part of engine to unmount the valve cover otherwise you can not pass by the hood Lock.

It has to do with the propshaft alignment, see picture.
Under the gearbox you can add or delate washers to improve the alignment.

Great photos and diagrams...thank you. Really helps!
While I am here...not original equipment but every time I would wash the car, water would collect in the cups under the front shock absorber rubber. To solve, I put a laundry cover cap on them. Fits nice and tight...with a minor mod.
Cheers!
