Hi all,
Does anybody know the part number of the clips which are used to hold both the wiring loom and hood / bonnet release cable inside the engine bay. As per the picture.
Regards
Peter

Sorry guys, just giving this one a push. I have a parts order ready to go and want to add these clips.
I have not seen them on any of the usual specialist websites in Europe or the USA and I cannot find them in the parts book.
Any help appreciated.

If you cannot find a part number, send your picture to Tom Hanson at the Classic Center. If it exists, he will know.
-
Thanks Frank for your advice. I will try that.

Hi Peter,
Can you let us know his answer?
Thanks.

Parts book shows a clip 001 988 98 78 but picture is very poor. There is also a 000 988 33 78 but again poor picture. Please do let us know what you find out. I'm in the process of installing new hood release cable and until your post I didn't even know there was such a clip.

Hi,

These were what I found too, but they look completely different vs. the part sought for.
I am curious what the part number is...
-
I could not find where the clamp/clip in the original picture is installed. I looked at my 280 SL, and the there are two clips for the hood release cable, near the power brake booster, and another under the heater hose on the driver side (LHD) but they look like the first clip in the SLS link.
-
The clamp illustrated in the first picture of this thread is not a W113 part.
It is installed in W108 (250/280 SE) and possibly also in W111 Coupe and Cabriolet.
Cannot verify just now

Hi,
part number Hans mentioned looks pretty close but doesn't match exactly: https://www.niemoeller.de/en/search/001%20988%2010%2078.

Hi, part number Hans mentioned looks pretty close.../...
You are right, as mentioned I could not check my library at this time.
I will return on the subject /hans

Peter, that is a part for the W111 as has been said. I would think this thread should be moved to the W111 section.
I can usually find parts on the EPC, but not that one. I do indeed have three of these along the drivers side engine bay wall and look exactly as yours does. I would think your best course of action is to find a salvage car and get them off that. I doubt Mercedes still has that.
May have to contact Mercedes to get the part number. A part number would allow you to search and also see what other models used this bracket which will make it easier to find a salvage part.
Good luck.

Sorry guys I have been off grid for a few days and just seen all the replies which are appreciated.
Yes, my car is a W111 and I mistakenly assumed Mercedes would have made life easy and used these clips on all cars of the era !
Normally the moderator spots the W111 specific stuff very quickly and removes it from the main section....looks like this one got away !
Wallace - I have begun stealing parts from the 280SE coupe "junker" which I bought but I try to avoid it wherever possible because it really does seem to be original.
-
By the way did anybody look at the clips from Niemoller?? 25 euros each one !!
I was glad they were not the correct ones !!
-
If I recall correctly, they are cheaper at MB, to be checked.

Wow. Nobody would have found that number on EPC. #001 988 20 78 shows up on EPC as a number only with no drawing. It only fits W110 and W111 cars and has a quantity of three.
That was not an easy one!

I have just ordered them from mercedes. Still available and only a few bucks each, less in fact than the Authentic Classics price, although Authentic Classics version is nicely finished.
-
It never hurts to check Mercedes for odd parts as they still have an amazing number available. I found the rubber seals that fit to the backside of the small chrome plate on the rear door jam of a coupe or cab. This piece covers the front side of the rear quarter window and seals that. 111 673 51 (52) 98 still around and not terribly expensive. Most probably don't know that part is even there and maybe why there is still stock on it.
Always makes for a good day when you find a part that you think doesn't exist.
-
I second Wallace here. I always check availability in MB of parts I see form other suppliers. The prices are often better at MB as some of the vendors hope that customers will assume higher prices at Mercedes. It does not always work, obviously, but often does.

Peter:
Those hooks can be saved still. Prepare a citric acid solution, and Immerse them for 24 hours. Then use a soft copper brush, Immerse them for another day, and then they will be ready for a thin layer of sprayed paint.
Citric acid can be bought in amazon, it comes as a powder or crystals. It’s easy to solvent with water. Very effective.

Hi Leonardo,
Thanks very much for for the tip. I have some citric acid (I think) which is a descaler for my coffee machine. I shall try it out now and post the results !

Guys,
As per Leonardo's recommendation I used some coffee machine descaler solution (citric acid I think) to clean these clips and it did a fantastic job. They came out like new !
