Title: WORLD'S SMALLEST & LONGEST LASTING FIRE EXTINGUISHER
Post by: Walt Marsh on May 30, 2020, 18:45:35
Hello Pagoda SL Group Member(s),

I found the following remarkable new product advertised in the Gullwing Group’s monthly newsletter.
I’m sure this will appeal to many Pagoda SL Group members as well.
I’ve acquired several along with mounting brackets for my shop, home, garage & vehicles.

I notified Peter this site’s administrator and he in turn forwarded this content to Mike Mizesko Pagoda Group's current President to see if he can contact Element Fire and negotiate a discount for our members as they have done for the Gullwing Group.

Impressive, Im on this.
Funny story with Jay Leno, on one of my cars I needed to pull the axle, found a shop not far away looked good but had pictures of Jay Leno's cars all over the website ( Suggesting ). Got may car back and noticed some muffler screws missing. ( have Never Gone Back).
Wrote Jay a letter say that this XYZ shop is using photos of your cars to attract customers , Jay called me 2 weeks later saying this is common, having his legal look into. A rather nice guy I must add.

I've had one of these in each of my cars for about 2 years now.  I think I showed it to Mike at the meeting of the Clans last summer.  Light and compact.

Guys,

I am one of the owners of Element and was made aware that our extinguisher was being discussed on the forum by Mike Mizesko. Co-incidentally I am a car guy as well , and a huge fan of the Pagoda (prefer the 230 and early 250 sl). I have been a lurker here for many years, predominantly in the classifieds section, hoping to find a car that resonates with me. No luck yet, unfortunately.

At Mike's suggestion I have signed up as a full member both to participate more fully in the community and to be able to come on here and answer questions about the extinguisher for those interested. I've also communicated with Mike about offering the community a discount, similar to what we did with the folks from the Gullwing Group. I will wait to get an OK before I proceed with that since i don't want to be in violation of any commercial posting guidelines.

For now, feel free to ask here if you have any questions and don't hesitate to call us at the office if that is your preference. My extension is 246 and we are located in Toronto Canada.

Kind Regards,
Paul

This is excellent, and very well compared to the traditional extinguishers.  I had a severe electrical fire on a 40 year old three carb car, both under the hood and underthe dash at midnight on a dark road.  The old style made an expensive mess and took too much time to put out.  It was mounted under the front of the driver's seat and took up too much space.  I will gladly change the one in my pagoda for one or more of these.  Good luck organizing a club deal.

Guys,

I received a couple of PM's regarding the extinguisher and thought that I would also follow-up with a public reply to those interested. The extinguisher can only ship via Ground service since it is considered to be Dangerous Goods, so no shipments from us outside of the Continental USA and Canada, unfortunately. That said, the same device is sold under different trade names elsewhere in the world (including Australia). For those outside of  North America who are interested, please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to put you into contact with the closest national/regional distributor.

Kind Regards,
Paul

They E50’s are on fleaBay here in Australia but are over $200 each delivered.  Live the idea and size but not a viable proposition really.  Pity as I could use 4.

Garry,

Not sure what is going on with the e-bay "sellers" you found. As I indicated above, the extinguisher cannot ship via air and we do not ship outside North America so I am not sure how these merchants intend to honor any orders they might get. These shady sellers turn up from time to time, regrettably.

There is an Australian importer for the extinguisher (sold under a different brand name but the same product) and if you forward me a PM I will be happy to send you their contact details.

Kind Regards,
Paul

what have you decided on the discount for our group? What do we need to do to get it?

I will first check with Mike Mizesko to make sure I do not fall afoul of any forum posting rules. If I get the OK I will post a discount code for forum members.

I've received the OK from the admins.

The discount code for Pagoda group members is mypagoda10. The code is good for 10% off any order and will be active until the end of July. It can be entered on the online store when prompted.

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Kind Regards,
Paul

I just ordered 2 E50's.  Thank you Paul.  Hope i never use your product.  LOL.

Just a quick thank you for the respectful way you approached our group.  I hope those that use your product share experiences they have with the rest of us.  I would expect good things, given the videos I've seen, and  the call I got from Jay. (jk).

Best wishes,

Thank you Mike. We participate in several forums and do our best to be respectful of each community's rules. Thank you also to those who have placed orders. I'm really pleased to know that some of our extinguishers are finding homes in one of my all-time favorite cars.

A note about Jay Leno is in order as well. In recent years we have had the opportunity to meet him on several occasions at car events in Southern California and we have had a few opportunities to tour his world-class collection. He is the real deal; always gracious and welcoming and exceptionally knowledgeable.  Through a mutual acquaintance he found out about the extinguisher and gave us an unsolicited invite to present the product on his show. He asked for absolutely nothing in return and only seemed happy to help a fledgling company get the word out. He is an incredibly valuable asset and a true credit to the car community.

Kind Regards,
Paul

I have followed this thread with interest and looked for a UK outlet.

I think it is called a "Fire Safety Stick" here in UK, I ordered one yesterday and it arrived today,

Excellent service from this UK vendor, who I have no association with.

Keep well

Has or can the product been submitted for UL testing?

EJ,

Not sure of your UL question, but I do see that it it passed CE standards (Canadian) which is similar in terms of testing, as it is distributed out of Toronto.  It also is ISO9001 compliant.  The UL question is a good one though.

Paul?

From their site:

Originating in Italy, Element has been certified for sale in Europe by CE and TUV. Institutionally it has been tested and certified for use by multiple international military and police groups who have adopted it for active use.

In North America, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is responsible for the certification of fire extinguishers. UL does their testing to a standard that contains a form (physical shape) component followed by a performance component. Because Element's form does not fit inside of UL's guidelines of what a traditional fire extinguisher looks like (i.e. compressed gas cylinder with a hose and measurement gauge) it is immediately passed over for performance testing. At present UL is being campaigned to update its standards to recognize the different form offered by Element and allow it an opportunity to be tested and certified.

Until the standards are updated Element cannot be used to substitute extinguishers in regulated environments that require a UL (or UL endorsed) certification. Element can however be freely used as an supplement to the extinguishers used where regulation exists.

Peter,

Thank you for referencing our website regarding the question of UL. I answer the UL question virtually every day and could write a book about the absurdities and politics surrounding the UL certification process.

As mentioned on our website, where an extinguisher is required by law or regulation anywhere in North America that device must be UL listed. In these environments our device can supplement but not replace the UL listed units. Most environments, however, are unregulated (your private vehicle is an example). In these settings you can use the device of your choosing without restriction.

Regarding CE, please note that this is a European certification, not a Canadian one. The Canadian testing body is CSA but they, like every other regulatory body in North America, revert to UL when writing their fire extinguisher standards.

Kind Regards,
Paul
