Title: NAPA Echlin EAS-70 Electronic Amplifying System on my 250SE

I've just seen this box which I thought was an alarm but it's an ignition system.  Has anyone had any experience with these? I'm wondering if this has got something to do with the cold start valve being disconnected??  Not sure whether I should be disconnecting it or not ... or re connecting the cold start valve??
Any thoughts?...

Dear Col

If it is an ignition system it has nothing to do with your cold start valve.  This should be related only with the ignition coil.  Verify to which sistema it is connected and let me know.  In all the Mercedes I own I have electronic ignition systems installed, so I can guide you somehow.

So this is what I have:

Red:  To the distributor/condenser.  Condenser still connected
White and Green: To the Ignition Coil
Black: to earth and directly to the negative battery terminal

Suggestions on leaving it verses removing it or something in between?

Dear col320ce

I made a search on the web to find the manual for your ECHLIN transistorized ignition module which led me to a post on sl113.org forum dated back in 2010.

After reading most of it and referring to an important part of the electrical manual posted on this same site related to transistorized ignition systems, my conclusion is LEAVE THE MODULE AS IS. You need it to reduce the wear on your ignition points.

Just check that you have all the components as stated on the electrical diagram published there.  Specially the part that ignition resistance is composed of two separated resistors. One for o.4 ohms and a later one with 0.6 ohm.  Those are critical to have the exact current needed to make your systems work flawlessly.
