Does anyone have a picture of an original Hirschman power antenna above the fender. I just need to see what the chrome bezel and not look like.
Thanks in advance,
Pat

Hirschmann power antenna W113. Angle rearwards some 20 degrees. Wand length 1100mm (1,1 metres)
Original Hirschmann designation for the W113 Pagoda is Auta 6000 F58

Thanks Hans!
I found a slightly later antenna and I wanted to see how close I was. I think it is a pretty good match.
I need to make a bracket for the inside so when I pull it out I can get a model number.
-
Just a side note; of course these metal housing original type power antennas are very rare now.
A working option if you would like to install a power antenna in your SL today would be the Hirschmann 6000 KE
or perhaps a HIT Auta 2050; these have plastic housings

Hans,
Thanks for the information. The one I found is from a R107 is a pretty close match to the original and exponentially more available. I had to rewire it internally and build a bracket and harness for it but i think it looks pretty good.

What is the model number of the antenna that you got out of a R107?
If you want to listen mostly to FM stations then it would be nice if this antenna has a length limiter that you can adjust to extend not more than about 35 inches.

Alfred,
It is a 481. 5 wire plug. In Auto mode it was short maybe 18” so I bypassed the first stop so now it is closer to 48”. It would be tough to get 36” because the mechanism is dependent on a fairly complex mechanical cam. I hardly ever turn the radio on anyway. That’s what the Land Rover is for.

Hi,
this Hirschmann antenna AUTA 6000U (types 481/2-485/6) where specially "export type installation ex car factory" for R107, W116, W123 and S123 until 7/83.

interesting, I can't believe how the prices have gone up. I think I paid $60 for mine a few years ago. R107's are really common. I guess this is a case where you find one in a local junk yard.

Original Hirschmann in my 190 SL. Works like a champ and radio surprising clear and able to be heard with its single speaker.

Nice John!

Hi Pat,
do you have a drawing with dimensions of the bracket that you made?
-
Alfred,
Just saw this. I will sketch it out.
-
Alfred,
Here are some pictures. The bracket has 2 little 1/4” spacers I turned on my lathe to keep it from bending the lip
Of the hole you slide the antenna through. These could easily just be a stack of washers. 3/4” x 1/8” flat stock one piece 2-1/2” long and one 8” long. If you are thinking of doing this I may have a photo of the internal wiring modifications.

Thanks Pat, looks very nice.
Did you tilt the antenna by about 20° or straight up?
Looking at your wiring pictures I believe you used a 3-wire hook up which gives you full up or full down. Is that correct?
My antenna came with the 5-pin connector which allows the partial extension of the telescope when combined with the appropriate switch. I am planning to use this version and hide the switch in the ashtray. Here is the wiring diagram.

Alfred,
Just saw this. The R107 antenna has it's own tilt built in. I am guessing it is close to 20 degrees. You are correct I modified the antenna wiring internally to provide power, ground and trigger which provided up with +12v and down when the +12 is taken away. I will dig out my pictures and see if I have it in case anyone else wants to do this.
