Title: Trunk Rubber Mats
Post by: hansr433 on March 29, 2020, 18:20:48
Hello all, a W111 coupe and Cabriolet has 2 rubber mats in the trunk, a large one to cover the cargo space, and a smaller one which covers the wheel well on the left side.  I am having carpeting made for the trunk and need the shape and exact sizing for the wheel well mat.  A photo and dimensions would be much appreciated as I do not have access to my car right now.

thank you.

I have both a rubber mat (that I made from an old piece of mat) and a coco mat for that well area. I will take pics and get measurements.

Attached is a picture of a coco mat and a rubber mat. The coco mat was custom piece from a pattern I made on the car and sent in. The rubber mat is actually available here and where I bought it - https://www.mbclassics.de/rubber-mat-left-trunk-side-W110-W111-W112

I forgot that the mat I made was not quite the correct shape and so I bought the one above. It fits perfectly. The only issue with this one is that it has a pattern like the door sills and that it is black. I would imagine the original left mat had a pattern more like the larger center mat and possibly a grey color. I don't know for sure though. The other difference is that the coco mat lays flat while the rubber mat ascends up the wheel tub a bit like the original did. So you would have to decide if you wanted the carpet piece to do that.

As you can see from the picture, the dimensions are complex and would be next to impossible to give you every dimension needed to make the carpet fit just right. The basic dimensions are:
coco mat: length - 23" and width tapers from 8-1/2 to 7-1/2"
Rubber mat: length 28" and width tapers as the coco mat, 8-1/2" to 7-1/2"

Hopefully that helps some. BTW The company in that link also sells that very hard to find plastic trunk wire harness covers for the W111.

Wallace, thanks ever so much for taking the trouble to make the photos and the link.  Very useful and much appreciated.  I was thinking of asking cocomats.com to make the trunk carpets and they have only a pattern for the large trunk mat.

Hans,

You might ask cocomats.com if they still have the pattern I made. It was probably four years ago. It fits really well and looks great.

Wallace, what a small world!  So you made their pattern.  Are you happy with the quality of their carpeting?

I did contact cocomats last week and they sent me these images of their pattern for the main trunk and a sample image of the colour I have chosen for my navy interior colour.

So does cocomats still have that pattern for left side? Oh my gosh, cocmats.com is by far the best coco mat I have seen. Very well made and thick. Not thin like many of them are. They are not cheap and you get what you pay for. Plus, they are a small (but growing) shop and very nice to deal with. I have them for my W111, W128, my wife's VW Toureg and my BMW 328d sportswagon. As you can see, I am a big fan.

I am also a fan of Coco Mats. I have them for my old cars and for the new ones, and have done business with them for 15 years.

I wanted to get a custom mat for the back cargo area of a 211 MB wagon some years back. I don't recall if they sent me a large piece of butcher type paper or I purchased some. I laid it out in the back area and cut around the tie down strap holders (four of them) then sent the paper to the folks at Coco Mats. Some weeks later (don't remember how long, but reasonable) and it was a perfect fit.

As Wallace says, they wear like iron, and look great.

Also a fan of coco mats however, mine, which are (were) dark blue with light fleck have faded a lot to the point that i am considering getting a new set. They are about 7 years old.  I guess that is the problem of driving most of the time with the top open. The alternative is maybe dying them back to the darker blue. Anyone tried that?

The only thing that stops me getting new ones  at the moment is exchange rates.

Garry, why not contact them and ask them what you could do about the fading?  Any dye you apply would also cover the light flecks.
