I noticed around the rear taillight - meets quarter panel - Some foam was used.
I have seen this on others , any idea how this was used and why ?
-
I've never seen that. May not be factory.

This is an original corner on a 1970 280SL with only 6,870 miles as new ( Perhaps the most original 113 in existence )
Notice the foam used in the corner .

You made me look. 1970 280 SL does indeed have that piece of foam. September 1969 build.

Is this what you mean item 35 / 43 ?

Not identified as a part #, looks to be used when fitting slightly off center body panel by factory, when inserting taillight.
Reason I brought this to the attention of the group, someone was trying to tell me this was used when doing body repairs .

I would love to see more pics of that low mileage car.

Original low mileage 280SL 6,870 miles, deep cleaning in progress... but not to clean :)

Could you get some up close photos of the various engine decals? The ones on the coolant tank, the left side of the valve cover, etc. There is also what looks like a tag in the engine compartment tucked up to the left of the brake booster.
Very interesting.

My 1970 also has it...built June 1969.
